Hi there,

I am about to upgrade to MyStar HD  and want to know if I can save programs recorded to my current MyStar box by copying them over to an HDD or by any other means?

Cheers,

Matt

You won't be able to copy the "files" off. However you can probably attach the box to a DVDR (instead of out to a TV). SO you press play on the Mystar and the REC on the DVDR and "copy" files. Not ideal but doable.

If you don't have a DVDR then you van possibly buy a PC converter cable instead. Something like this

Mystars have macrovision signalling enabled when playing back recordings.  Many DVD / HDD recorders take notice of it and may refuse to record.  Some recorders have hidden macrovision disable options (press buttons in certain order, hidden menu options etc) but a 'video stabiliser' will also defeat it.  PC recording devices can also take notice of macrovision but many don't or react badly to it (crash).
