I just got the "ABC DVD" branded release of the US version of Being Human.  I thought, I'd grab it locally more due to not wanting to wait for it to ship from the US even though it was waaaay more expensive.  To rub salt into the wounds however I found that:
- US Release: 4 Disc version with DTS-MA in 5.1 http://www.blu-ray.c...-Blu-ray/27984/
- OZ ABC Release: 2 Disc version and only with DTS-MA in 2.0 (cover slip says DD 2.0) http://shop.abc.net....eries-1-blu-ray and the AVC encoding is running around 20mbs (no idea what the US version runs at).

Anyone have a contact for ABC DVD I can register a complaint as why should we get a second rate release at a premium price?

That sucks big time. Even the HD rips are 5.1 so this is substandard to say the least although the image quality was appaling on some of the early episodes.

Interested to hear the outcome of this one and your thoughts on the imagery, particularly ep 3 (or possibly 2) where they are in the night club with the strobe lighting....

Also, may be worth changing the title of the thread so people may want to read it...  :)

Edited the title (but stuffed if I can get the capitilisation to work correctly).  Also FYI there are no "extras" on the ABC Oz version.

I checked some other Blu ray TV eps I have and they are all encoded at around 30mbps so ABC really cranked up the compression to fit it all onto two discs.  Even my camcorder punches out higher bit rates than this ABC Version.  I'll certainly report back my impressions of the video quality though without the US Blu version it will be hard to make a valid comparision.

OMG - what is the FIRST RULE of Blu-ray club ????   BUY IT CHEAP.   And the SECOND RULE :  Aussie releases are normally crap.

You should just take it back.

(even to provide more evidence of 'crap' - even the DVDs of the UK series were missing extras.  ABC couldn't even port them across from the BBC)
