I have a Pioneer DV-969avi which is still one the best players for upscaling DVD if you don't have any luck with the others, located in Melbourne......

While you're waiting for the ultimate DVD upscaling player to appear, just nip down to k-mart or officeworks and buy an Akai AD154X (or AD156X it might be now). Will dump 1080p over HDMI and is around $50. The picture out of the box is kind of soft but you can change the settings a little to sharpen it up I think.

Bonus: it's region free without having to fiddle with it.
