I was looking thru the settings in my new IQHD box and noticed that you can set hd as 720, 1080, pass through or auto. It was set at 720 when I got it. Has anyone worked out which setting will give the best results overall?

Depends on what you watch and what you watch it on.

Most of foxtel HD is broadcast at 1080i.  The exception is ESPN, broadcast at 720p.

Now if your TV has a native resolution of 1080i or 720p then that it is probably the best to use.

However most recent model TV's are 1080p.  So you need to try this on your TV.  Does it do a better job of converting (or whatever the technical term is) 1080i to 1080p or 720p to 1080i?

Let your eyes be the judge.

TV is Pioneer 508xda, 1365x768. Even tho the Kuro upscales well, with box on 1080 it seems a bit juddery, so I'll try 720 and auto. Thanks, Blairy.

I wonder what the difference is between pass through and auto.

'Auto' it detects your TV and outputs everything at that resolution, for yours this would probably be 720p?

'Pass through' it outputs everything at its native resolution eg ESPN channels at 720p, other HD channels at 1080i, SD channels at 576i

I have same tv,theres a setting in it that if its not on the right one things like football are jittery. Will check after and let you  know what it should be on ,that might be more your problem as i really see no difference in either 720 or 1080.

Have tried those settings, but still can't read the very bottom text on CNN, though I'm not sure if it's the stream rather than my TV.
