Region free at Len Wallis, with Pro Mod too but a little more expensive. I would prefer to get it there for tha back up service that Len provides.
Actually, I hadn't contemplated replacing my entry level SONY but I'm starting to get tempted.

Oppo Shop have the BDP-93AU for $649, which includes the standard mod. With a pro mod the price is $839.  Their BDP-95AU is $1299 with a standard mod and $1489 with a Pro Mod. Don't know how much shipping is.

Currently, Trevor Lees via E-bay has the BDP-93AU for $639, which includes free express shipping but no mod. $45 for the basic, don't know how much for the Pro. They also sell the BDP-95 for $1100 plus $200 for the Pro Mod and $25 for shipping. At least a $164 saving as I haven't taken into account the shipping at the oppo shop.

When I emailed Trevor Less via ebay on March 12th, he sold 4 x BDP-93's for $580 plus $15 shipping ea.  Here's the listing - http://cgi.ebay.com....E:X:RTQ:AU:1123

After that, he sold 2 more at $649 ea. Now they're $639 ea.  I'm going to send trevor andother email and question the price variance over the past few weeks and see what his response is.

$595 inc shipping was an excellent price. Maybe his prices will come down again.

I'm tempted to sell both my bluray players for the BDP-93AU. :)

I'm tempted to sell both my bluray players for the BDP-93AU. :)

The 'newer' versions are Aussie based players supposedly and requires a mod kit to play region 1/3 bluray discs.  Its not bad in stock form as it will play r2 disc's and will suit my brother's requirment for a bluray player.  The older one's would be the US based players with/without the mod chip i reckon.

Agree. I went from a Sony to an Oppo and the difference is like night and day IMO.

Both make the player region free for DVD and region selectable for blu-ray.

The standard mod requires you to start the player, press a number of keys, then stop it and restart.

The pro mod lets you select from 3 keys to start it in the region you want.  The pro mod is a LOT easier to get set up on a universal remote.

Munter you mention it's for brother, mind if ask what is the actual need. As players like the oppo are usefull to enthusiasts like us. And fair enough if need is for universal player with media and network replay. But if just after a basic player as often all people need then might be overkill.

Can instead get something like either of the tosh players ie the 3D one for under $150 or non 3D for around $80. And best part is both are region free with firmware no mod required. Many happy owners here, where can read more about :)

Thanks.  Didnt consider any others as the Oppo seems to be the best player out atm.  Will look into this especially when its much cheaper than the 93.

I currently have a Pioneer BDP 120  blu ray player that I find  acceptable. Just wondering how much better the oppo 93 ($800 pro mod region free) is over the toshiba 3200 ($145 region free). I have no doubts that a side by side comparsion will show the oppo to be better; its more than 5 times the price!!! However, I wont be comparing them side by side - just buying and using.

Playing on a home theatre screen - have classic 80's JBL speakers and thanks to Yorak a Pio LX82 amp this is still wonderful.

All input welcomed  ;-))

With a 1080 projector on a 100+" screen you'll notice a difference - modest on blu-rays, large on decently mastered DVDs. On a 50" plasma the difference on blu-rays will be subtle, but still noticeable for good DVDs.

If you're OK working with electronics like a PC, the other option is to import from Amazon and buy the mod from hereor here and get out of it for ~$700.  Oppo will send parts if you ever have any warranty issues.

The other advantage with the Oppo is excellent ongoing support for firmware updates.
