Just don't tell Mellow .... He's a tad envious of those that collect BDs.

Whilst I am a DVD Profiler Owner, I noticed this on OzBargain and figured some here might like to give it a try:

well I added a symbol usb barcode scanner to add in discs and it has made the job of adding in discs very simple. works 100% and very quick vs using the scanner on the iphone. pleased with the purchase. was a plug and play thing as well so matter of just plugging in and was up and going. when hit the scan button on it the scanned number just appears in dvd profiler. highly recommended :)

A scanner may be usefull adding titles already in the DVD Profiler database. However if you, like me add titles to the database you cannot go past a Blu-ray drive. If you add discs by scanning in the drive you will frequently find that they are identical to existing US or UK releases, complete with cast & crew details. You only then have to change the cover scans, locality, UPC and rating details etc.

It takes a lot of time to do a disc scan though ... so the barcode is easier for multiple titles ... most of mine are US anyway.

It is only faster if the title is in the database. My point was if you are a contributor, a Blu-ray drive makes it easier.
