As part of house moving, I'm setting up a second tier system at the end of the house for my wife and just casual hanging out. It will have an old plasma and tuner, and stream movies and audio through a Dune device.
The house has already got in-ceiling speakers with speaker wire wall connections, and appears to have front and rears.
So I need, for the first time in my life, a receiver to decode signals from the Dune and STB, and to drive the speakers. What's a good entry level device and what price point should I be looking at? I suppose it is conceivable I might upgrade the in-ceilings one day but they are still going to be pretty average.
Help Recommend Me A Receiver

If you're happy with an older, pre-HDMI receiver, you can buy my old Denon 1603 for a cheap price!

what inputs/ outputs are you looking to run?
i.e all devices into the receiver that will always be on and always use for audio?
or are you likely to use the in-built plasma speakers when watching "normal tv" content and just flick on the receiver for movies etc?
Personally i don;t like the idea of having a receiver that doesn't have a built in Analogue>Digital video scaler
i.e you can't put in component video from older devices and have it output through the receivers HDMI cable to the display without that scaler.
entry-level receivers don;t usually have this feature and it really annoys me.
paying an extra $200 now on a mid-level receiver may save some headaches with connectivity issues later-on.

on this forum i asked for (and was kindly given) an older (non-HDMI) Denon receiver for my garage for $50. if you don't need video stuff or HD-audio, why spend the extra $$?

I do need a bit of tech as the Dune is a pretty capable streamer to 1080p so I will need HDMI and some decent decoding and some good DAC.
That said, I recognise I am constrained by the speakers and don't want to overdo the receiver. I was thinking about Al's price point, maybe a bit lower if I can lose upscaling. And of course second hand is a possibility once I know what I'm looking for.
