I want to add an iPod dock to my system for the missus and kids.
Still have a Yam 1800 hooked up to Emotiva preamp and power amp.
Someone suggested a Denon something something a while back, just want to see what the options are today. Could pick up a cheap Yam Docking Station but wanted something a little better sounding, if possible.
I add most of my songs from CD in highest quality possible , buy very little direct from iTunes.
Anyway, anything suggested I'll take on board, thanks in advance.
Do I hook up direct to the Pre for best sound??? I assume that would be right?????

Yes, direct to the pre for best sound for sure.
As for a dock, i'm not really up to speed on what's hot right now. From memory Al is pretty happy with his Cambridge dock....

yes I've got a couple, the cambridge id50 and the arcam rdock that I use in my lounge room and bedroom systems. can highly recommend either if hooking up over analog and for 2ch. these utilise the inbuilt wolfson dacs of the ipads/iphones which are actually pretty good but by passes their crappy headphone output and fixes up the levels of the analog output if hooking upto 2ch gear for a good result.
can also use a digital dock, but theyre quite expensive and then have to use a separate dac to go from digital to analog or go into an avr or processor.
if hooking over into av processor or avr the hookup cable gary has posted above is going to be pretty hard to beat. another option if want to do it wirelessly the appletv at $100 or so is also a good addition that can stream off any i device to your tv or anything else

If you have an AppleTV you don't actually need to iPod (the Apple TV will just play content itself) - but if you have golden ears, you'd probably want to bypass the appleTV and use the DAC in your amp.
