Really looking forward to this new model. Last plasma I bought was a Pioneer back in 2006.

You will not be disappointed in the Pana. I have 2008 50 inch but the 65VT20A I got at end of 2010 was a big improvement. I imagine the 2012 VT50 will be a big improvement again.

Samsung have always overcharged for "LED" LCD, they where instrumental in convincing the average punter that "LED" is something special and the fools swallowed it hook line and sinker. :logik:

Even thought the DT model has very mixed reviews (2 stars to 5 stars) it isn't that bad to view in person and blacks don't appear as bad as made out in cnet review. No WT model here though.
Viewing angels are fantastic on the IPS panel and even the Sharp THX certified LCD panel looks very average in comparison.
Pity we don't get the high-end Phillips IPS panels in Aust, which have been getting some good reviews.
$397,800 yen = $4972 AUD. It still amazes me how cheap TV's in Aust are compared to here.
I took some video but can't upload to youtube so will put up later. 55" DT next to the 55" VT plasma.

Hi Owen, thanks for that . :)
So what are your views now, do you still like the plasmas over LEDs? and is pana vs samsung a personal preference thing now with the new models?

Must agree our 65" V10 Panny is now 2.5 years old, has a beautiful picture, great colour and all looks so natural, so still love it as much as the day it was installed, would buy another next time.

Thoughts on 3D Pana v 3D Sammy?
Consider, by default non-3D movies would still be watched via the Benq PJ & screen.

The ST30 was very close to the VT30 for performance so I expect the ST50 will be a significant step up over the UT50.
For movies a decent projector will smash a little TV and 3D is wasted on a small screen. Come to think of it 3D is a waste of time anyway.

Thanks for your feedback Owen
Dunno 'bout 3D as I haven't seen much of anything, Time will tell.

There doesn't appear to be any sort of reflective coating at all and would be unwatchable in a normal home set-up (if reflections drive you crazy).
I get the feeling this could be similar to the upcoming OLED tv's (effectively being a mirror and reflecting everything), which will be their biggest problem with the first few model's until they get sorted out (as all new technologies have to go through teething issues).
