I need to get rid of my large and unruly beast. I know they are practically worthless now ( a crying shame really how inferior flat panels just killed CRT stone dead) so I am not expecting anything. If it can go to a good home for spare parts or for someone to appreciate it's loveliness then PM me. I really don't want to put this on the nature strip! I live in Melbourne.

Tell them to bring a crane...

But seriously, it's indeed sad to see superior technology being abandoned.
I dread the day I'll be parting with my KV-HR.... Mine broke down last year after 7+ years but I fixed it and hope to get another 7 years out of it!

Good luck with the adoption process....

I've still got my HR32 which I don't really want to get rid of. Not using it at the moment, but it still works perfectly.

It's sitting in my son's bedroom, can't bare to part with it. :P

I sort of know what you mean. It is a great picture but I work in TV and it seems that CRT is pretty much dead. I occasionally turn it on and it does have a lovely picture but it is from another time.

Mine is still my main TV.. Fabulous picture... now setup to accept four HDMI inputs using HDFURY III converters and a Marantz1602 receiver surround sound etc. All controlled by a Harmony 1100i remote. Other components include a Topfield TRF2460 and a Foxtel IQHD..

is a simple VGA -> RGBHV (rca) cable like this all that is needed to plug a PC into Kv-Hr36M31?
http://www.hdtvsuppl...amato5rcar.html

unfortunately all the cheapies on eBay have a different type of connector (BNC). Never heard of it...
http://www.ebay.com....=item27c34bcf64

Edit: does anyone know where i could get a VGA -> RGBHV cable? seems pretty hard to find in Australia!

or perhaps i should just get a BNC cable as eBay has cheap BNC -> RCA adapters

But wouldn't HD/Bluray be a better viewing experience on say a 50-55in plasma?

At the time I couldn't find one with RCA connectors so I made my own. Just used an old monitor cable and wired the corresponding pins up to RCA plugs.

A quick Google search found a Australian company that sells them. - link

The vga to RGBHV cables that I have are a  2 metre quest cable and a  hdfury cable.

HDFury supply VGA to RGBHV cables come with BNC ends. VGA end in female or male. Length is only 100mm but you can use a standard vga cable + gender changer to extend.
You can Buy two HDFURY cables for US$59 delivered.
http://www.hdfury.com/buy-hdfury-now/
HDFury2 has a RGB female plug and the HDFury3 has a RGB male plug. Also you will need 5 BNC to RCA connectors available from Hong Kong for abour $6 delivered.
Another great product HDFury sell is their GammaX adjuster. It gets the black levels just right. They no longer sell it by itself. You can buy it at curpalme
http://www.curtpalme.com/GammaX.shtm
If you buy both you will need the opposite VGA to RGBHV cable to match up. If you make a mistake gender changers are available at Jaycar for $7

Many PC video cards (mostly older ones) can output standard 576i/p, 720p or 1080i Component video via a cheap break out cable, this is simpler to get working than RGB via the VGA D-sub as the Sony is not very happy with non standard video signals from a PC. I would go for 720p 50Hz output from the PC and if flicker was a problem go for 576i/p 50Hz so the TV could run 100Hz.

I have a VGA cable with RCA connectors on one end that I made from an old CRT monitor cable and break out cables for Component out from Nvidia cards from a few years back, they are available for free if anyone wants them.

hey Owen.

yeah, some of the older cards can (i.e. HD2400 Pro). but i have a HP workstation PC i was planning to hookup and thought using the TV's functionality would be easier than finding an old card that fits my PC.

i also have a VGA -> 3 RCA (component) cable, but no use without the appropriate video card. does yours have the 5 RCA's for use as RGBHV?

thanks for the advice re: settings ...

The cable I have was used for componenet so only has RCA's on the RGB wires, the wires are there for horizontal and vertical syc but need RCA's soldered on.
Any VGA cable has wires for RGBHV so yours should be usable.

The next problem will be getting a TV compatible resolution and timing from the video card, 1280x720 at 50Hz should be relatively easy.
The defualt 60Hz used by PC's will give you a picture but will give you juddery motion with 50Hz Oz TV and PAL DVD's.

Strangely the US model equivalent got a HDMI connector, where we got the crappy MemoryStick reader instead.

I ran mine as a HTPC for a whilst (with good results but could be a hassle) but now run it with the HD Fury. Plain sailing :)

I wouldn't bother trying to use 50Hz, the flicker would be too annoying, stick with 60Hz when possible. I remember the overscan on this TV was really bad, especially when using RGBHV. Component wasn't too bad, that might be the way to go, but I'd say VGA is your only option. :hmm:

AFAIK, the US model had a DVI connector.
