Can anyone answer a question for me please
I have a Homecast PVR which I am about to send off to have repaired in my loungeroom.It receives all the channels perfectly when I unplug it & plug in my Digitec stb from my garage & I cant receive any ABC or WIN channels.
I have scanned the STB 3 times & same result
The STB in the Garage is on a different ariel but it picks up all the channels when out there (not 100% but they are there)
1 more question regarding signal strength. Is it normal for the strength to vary? 1 day I can have a 25% reading & the next its 4% & pixilating.
This digital TV is doing my head in!!!!

Digital and Analogue TV treat worse reception quite differently. Analogue simply provides an increasingly poorer picture as the signal gets worse. So
90% signal => 90% picture quality
85% signal => 85% picture quality
40% signal => 40% picture quality
etc.
Digital on the other hand will provide 100% quality as the signal gets worse until suddenly it falls off the "digital cliff". At that point you get no reception. Each network will have a different digital cliff point on a STB.
90% signal => 100% picture quality
85% signal => 100% picture quality
80% signal => 0% picture quality
Note these numbers are indicative only.
It sounds like you're main aerial is close to the digital cliff. So one STB shows all channels while another has major gaps. I'd suggest you get an antenna guy to check your reception (at the outlet and at the mast) to work out what you might need to do. (also if you have a booster in your network then you might be getting too much signal)
As for varying signal strength, yes it can wax and wane over the day. The numbers the STB provides are again largely indicative (they show good/ok/poor/none really).

As mentioned, different tuners cope with weak/strong/ BER errors differently, which sounds like what's happening in your case.
From your description, it looks like you have signal issues of some kind, but without accurate signal measurements, it's impossible to know exactly what's happening.

The key is to have a sufficient signal strength and quality margin above the minimum levels for reliable reception, so that when levels drop a bit, they are still within the digital 'operating window'.
It would be beneficial for you to have your antennas/reception checked by a competent installer to ensure you obtain reliable digital signals.

Hi all
Purchased a new PVR to day & ive got great signal strength now!!!
But tell me this I did ring a guy about coming to check out the reception issues. I told him I had just put up a new ariel & he told me there are 3 types for my suburb!!! would this be true or would this just be softerning me up for more money!!!
