Who ever mentioned that?

Foxtel's stated that they want to eventually phase out the digital STU's and have IQ in every home, however; no time frame was ever set from memory.

I said AFTER HD is released.

Actually I still think this makes sense.  This deal appears to be for new customers.  If they are only going to charge $5 for installation they have to pay the installers a lot more than that plus the initial capital costs for the box.  They would have to get that back from the $5 per month for the IQ.  I find this comforting because the upfront costs to Foxtel would be the big hit for them.  For upgrades like us there wouldn't be the sort of cable laying costs with new customers.  Therefore if this is the benchmark for newbies, I would expect a better deal for us.

Mate at the end of the day, they aren't allowed to speak until the permission is given. Yourself and anyone else who asks for the information aren't important enough to lose their jobs should they be found out.

The deal is good and existing customers are being looked after and all playing fields are level.
I totally agree with you on that.  I never pressured any of them, just asked some pointed questions and took in what the reply was.  I was actually impressed that they kept to their guns and didn't give anything important away.  The one thing everyone did say was that it was a great deal.  I guess we are all a little gun shy around that statement from Foxtel but would be thrilled to be proven wrong.  That's why we we are so impatient to get some hard data.

As for the credibility, you've got all walks of life working on the kiosks and it's still a new concept some are still struggling with. Not everyone is a tech-head...
I was referring more to the dates around press conferences/announcements etc.  I would rather they say they don't know than giving me dates that just keep slipping.  Remember, I was the one who reported there was supposed to be a press conference today.  I hate reporting false info.

"Foxtel are currently setting up a department for hd enquiries only which will be operational on monday. Anyone who has filled in a expression of interest online will be contacted shortly by one of the foxtel csr's"

lol, its a good comparison, you can see how blurrry the current foxtel service is compared to HD.

But come on, surely that 'woman' patrick was talking to, was a man......

They have definately said the EPL will be in HD - specifically I remember Kim Williams saying it during the Foxtel HD launch (they even showed EPL as part of the original Foxtel HD promo). I'd say it's not 100% confirmed, that's why it's not on the Foxtel HD site, but it's very likely that it will be - or at least some of it. Something like a 3rd of EPL matches will be produced in HD next season.

The La Liga and Champions league is a good question. I've asked on the Foxtel HD blog, emailed ESPN, but no conclusive answer. Several press releases have suggested that they will be in HD - and it is possible, because La Liga is shown in HD in the US, on a channel called World Sport HD. Some champions league is shot in HD, so maybe we will get some Champions league in HD as well - I'd be happy just to get widescreen though...

They damn well better have the EPL in HD!  Not being a movie watcher, the only reason I get Foxtel at all is to watch overseas football coverage.  Every time we watch an EPL match in the apalling picture quality Foxtel currently broadcast it in, we are mocked by seeing the banners for 'Skysport HD' all around the pitch.

I would much prefer to have the costings in advance of being contacted so that I could digest the implications of spending more money!

One thing i forgot to mention earlier.

In the blog Patrick mentioned that people like to receive an answer to posted questions in 24 to 48 hours.

Now if you have been following the blog you will know that questions are not even posted to the blog within 48 hours, let alone answered.

So, people have mentioned that a HD call centre will be opening on Monday, this is just over 48 hours of the blog being posted and, if there really is a centre opening Monday, will answer questions we have about HD...

I just rang Foxtel and asked about HD pricing. The consultant tried to put me through to the HD department but said they were having technical difficulties and suggested I call back in an hour.

You'd think they would do this overnight! Here's a pic of what their HD web site looked like a few minutes ago:

Of course I couldn't resist clicking on pricing.php:
