The E-shift system should allow convergence correction of half a 1080 pixel (one 2160 pixel) as a line uses two E-shift pixels but not less without blur, the 1/16th 1080 adjustment uses adjoining E-shift pixels to cancel colour fringing, thats blur not convergence as you have not "converged" anything. You cant move a colour less than a singe addressable pixel and thats all there is to to it.
Try turning E-shift off and measure line width at a point where native convergence is good and where its out, then enable E-shift with your convergence adjustments applied and measure line width at the same points. I expect that with E-shift enables lines of a convergence test pattern with have softer edges (slight blur) and in areas where you have applied convergence adjustment the blur will be worse and the line wider than where convergence adjustment was not needed.
Other X70-RS55 owners report that E-shift "convergence" adjustment is no substitute for good native convergence and some have had their projectors replaced because of that.
This man definitely knows his stuff. Great contributor and no nonsense no bs approach.

You should be happy to know I haven't had the urge to use any lens with this machine either. I did test it out and the results were worse than lens memory zooming. Grid distortion, pin cushion etc. Once 4K is the norm, lenses will be a thing of the past, it's only natural. They were always a stepping stone until res got fine enough and PJ's bright enough.
was my impressions as well, seeing the x90 demoing scope material without lens at the melbourne show.

The big top of the range cost no object curved scope model with motorized masking goes for about $17k in the US, $15k for a basic little 110" motorized screen is insane and a dead set rip off.
If thats the sort of pricing policy Screen Technics have forum members would be well advised to avoid them like the plague.

+1 Can vouch for Screen Technics and LP Morgan staff. They are receptive to your questions and give you invaluable information about the products they sell.
Two Australian Company's that give you good old fashioned advice and service.

I should get onto DNP and let them know that their AU distributor is killing their sales down under. When you can buy three screens in Europe for the price of one here there is a real problem.

good question additk, I had a quick peep at the manual (this is downloadable now) and they recommend 3 monthly cleans of the filter. and yeah given have had the unit and used it over that period maybe a time for a clean
they do suggest too to follow the recommendations to maintain long life of the bulb, so only a good thing to do I would say

hey roh, congrats and a beauty isnt it
yeah its really good out the box isnt it ! just have to make sure projector is setup physically perpendicular and level in all three directions to screen. as far as setting on the pj, really thx colour mode and eco lamp power setting is all you need for an excellent out of box performance, so can just sit back and enjoy

Jeez such a hard arduous task...
Should I leave Auto Iris on our off? Also, I can't hear it so I'm thinking that it might not be working? It's literally 2 feet away in this tempoary set up.

Set it to normal via menu. Put on a contrasty film eg Dark Knight. You should hear a rumble like sound as Iris opens and closes. Mute volume of the film to assist with obsevation

I also going to use purpose soft lens brush which uses a puffs of air plus very soft hairs at the end to clean lenses on cameras.
Stop Press
Just cleaned mine. Took a good 5 minutes.

I also can't hear mine even setting it at high and it being located 3-4 feet away, I going to have to do some more thorough observing.
How would someone who has never previously owned a projector diagnose a malfunctioning Iris?

The detail naturally is finer than the older Sony 720p , and overall it's a nice upgrade
The whites and bright scenes are pretty full on and blacks are good but the screen gain and closeness off the pj make the black bars not so black etc.
i'll move it back in the next few weeks and maybe go up a size or 2 on the screen ( waiting to see if Screen Science will help me out here )
l have'nt tried 3D yet as we have'nt bought a player and l'm tossing up whether to go a player or 3D media player such as a HiMedia 900B
Anyway very happy with with the PJ and looking forward to getting it set up properly ( very good as is )
Oh, l'm running the iris on high , have'nt looked at gamma yet etc ...also l noticed when l switched on FI , my audio went slightly out of sync ( l run 7.1 analogues out ) and l reckon the pic got slightly softer ? ( l was tired at the time though ) , l didnt leave it that way as the sync issue bothered me and l could'nt be bothered fixing it lol
Anyway gotta go and set up the wdtv for the kids ,
cheers ken
