Waternarks and Burn In!
#1

I now have the channel 9 watermark/Logo burnt in on my 5 month old Panasonic HD plasma, but only on a white or grey screen, I can cleary see the bloody channel 9 logo.
Its been 2 weeks and its still there, I've got a service guy coming out to look at it Monday morning.
I've been so careful with contrast/Brightness settings still all around 50% and never really leaving a program on to long or pausing dvd's and xbox to a min. The cricket was on for 2-3 hrs Max.
Any thoughts guys, you pay $4500 for a Tv and F*ck me this happens!
Where do you stand on warranty????
Keep trucking!

eeeeeek - thanks for the warning.
I often watch the cricket for similar amounts of time (if not longer). Also played xbox games for several hours that have health/status indicators in static position - had not noticed any issues to date, might have a closer look 2night (just to be sure!
I have about 800hrs total on my panel to-date, which ive had for about 5 months also (Fuji 50" 40-series, which uses Pana glass)
I do recall another panasonic user on here that that the same issue, but I think their issue was much more severe (had watched the cricket less, and the burn-in was more obvious) - cant recall how that turned out (try doing a search..?)
let us know how you go with yours?
cheers

yeah but I was not so concerned because there is an add-break every 6 balls, so no logo (perhaps ad break not long enough to help)..?
also, with the score in the top-left, there are a lot of shots, replays, stat-screens etc etc where the score is not on the screen... which I guess (and hope) should help to some degree
but yes, I am a bit paranoid also

This is the second time this has happened to you. I remember you posting a warning after Bathurst.
We watch a similar amount of sport to you, for similar amounts of time, though with a bit of channel surfing every now and then.
Touch wood, hasn't happened to us. We are on 78 Contrast and 64 brightness now too.
Maybe your panel is more prone to burn-in? If it were me, I'd be pushing for a replacement?
Good luck.

Bathurst was ok, only lasted a few hrs, but the Channel 9 cricket logo, has caused me drama's, I still havent unleashed the full power of the panasonic, with increasing settings and all that!

However, I do find watermarks are an annoyance as a viewer. Ch 9 are to be commended for having such a feint watermark when the cricket isn't on. Wouldn't it be nice if they used that feint one all the time?

I just don't get this...
I've had the cricket on, ALL day and for days and never even had image retention... Then, i'm now so confident in my pana i've left a pasued screen on the xbox for 6 hours, and still no burnin, minor image retention that went after an hour or so. That was a complete static image...
You've been damn unlucky and its strange seeing as i find it damn near impossible (without being stupid) to have any image retention let alone burn in

LOL, no im just fussy and have a lot of contacts that do work their
Went through a patch of bad panels... Ended up being a bit of a plasma whore seeing as in a 4 months period bought 5 plasma's
STB's just a case or take back and change if faulty..
I work closely a lot sometimes with the industry on every level of the companies, but it also teaches you how to deal with some of them too, so swapping, replacing things isnt an issue when thats the case.
Think i was the self confessed plasma whore

Or one of us repeatedly unlucky.
EVeryone on here and all over raves on about how impossible it is to permantly burn any image onto the Pana's and they reputed as one of the the best for anti burn, and yet after whats supposed to be 2-3 hours of cricket at half brightness/contrast (mines set at 42B/74C so bright) using xbox and having a health bar in the same place for 6 hours straight never had a single burnt image...
Damn unlucky is all i can say

As said by all these other "forum experts" as you put it. Isn't it common sense to assume that its likely to more be a case of a faulty panel, as its CLEARLY not a common issue amongst other owners.

"Burnt by those TV logos
By Edmund Tadros
January 23, 2006 - 12:07PM
Channel logos can be bad for your plasma TV's health.
The station icons that so outraged viewers when they were first introduced to sit permanently in the corner of the TV screen, could now prove costly - though the odds are long.
Plasma screens can be damaged by "burnt in" images if they are tuned to the same picture continually.
An ABC spokeswoman said the station has had only had a handful of complaints about the problem.
"Many plasma screens have built-in features which are designed to reduce burn-in, so it's also beneficial to refer to the user manual."
The advice comes amid a report that a Sydney man spent $3000 on a new set to watch the Boxing Day Test only to see a permanent Channel Nine logo burnt into the corner of his screen after five days.
"If all the settings are up on full, then burn in could occur quite easily."
He said Dick Smith had received no complaints, and David Ackery, Harvey Norman's general manager of electrical goods, said their stores had had no complaints either.
Some plasma televisions reduce the chances of burning by moving images by a pixel or two during operation, so the screen is not static."

Our TV seems to have a nice channel 7 sport logo in the rh top corner now.
Only had the Panasonic 42" 500A HD panel about 2 weeks and have been watching a bit of tennis but not that much.
My settings arent on full either, they're on standard with contrast about 71 and everything else lower.
I'm soo mad!
The logo is clearly visible at the moment when you turn the tv on or off (before you get picture)... any ideas what I can do about this?

Yeah, you could of read the numerous posts regarding any plasma and breaking them in for the first 100-200 hours. Having contrast/brightness set to 50 or below. Your contrast is as high as mine with over 150 hours on my panel.
So its obvious why its happened.
More than likely its still temporary. Personally i'd stretch and image to completly fit the screen (like the seven loop) and leave it playing all day when your out for a few days, should clear the marks right up, having other images move the pixels. Obviously doing this then continueing to watch the tennis with such high settings will only make the problem worse.
Drop the contrast to 50, and have a moving image on the screen for as long as possible during the days. Will remove any image retention. (i still don't believe current top panels will PERMANTLY burn in, as was shown by the OP's panel having a white image on the screen to remove it. It that was a CRT theres NOTHING you can do to remove burn in once its there.. so it is still only IMAGE RETENTION
