Recommended retail is $699 as shown on both this site and the Sony website.
Harvey Norman @ Bundall here on the Gold Coast just quoted me $799.
I had to ask a salesperson the price because of all the STBs piled up on the floor this was the only model not showing a price.
Congratulations HN the Legend lives on..

Was that with a straight face?!?!
Am I now going to have to mount a Devil's Advocate argument on behalf of HN, for the sake of your valliant defence of LG?!?!
What would you say ... "show me in writing, hard evidence of HN being shyte ... we dont want any rumour and inuendo around here!"...

Well I worked there for a while, they wanted me to manage the Technical area in one of there Computer Superstores. I saw enough to not want to take the job enough said. Puts flame proof suit on, I think I've judged your technique I believe you just want a flame war well not from me. I'm not here for that.

A normal retail tactic (trick) is to run with an obviously over price for some months like $799 then do a super dooper catalogue sale with a genuine $150 off sticker and drop it to $649. Its a genuine price drop of $150 for that store and looks great in advertising but compared to other stores its just a $50 drop.
This sort of thing is standard practice in most retail especially jewellery. Hint with jeweller if the sale price is not less than half of valuation price its not cheap enough. If it actually at valuation price then wait 2 to 3 months and suprise suprise its now half price 50% off "wow" (not).
The moral is always shop arround, and do the more honest retailers a favour if they offer you the best price buy it off them dont buy from a place that will only match someone else.
Personally I would pay 10% more for something than buy from HN.

Speakers = bloody huge mark up, Avreceivers = big markup, Tvs and Lcd = average markup, Plasmas= big markup (thats why they can do the good specials and still do that special deal just for you).

I agree, their tired old ads and the screaming voice over put me off years ago and I haven't been in a H.N. store going on ten years. You would think Jerry Harvey would wake up to himself. Retrovision get my business.

Thats what I thought, but I rang them twice and was put through to someone on the floor, I was told "we dont have the facilities to acept returns" and "we have a no return polocy". When I rang Philips they seemed very suprised. So I dont know if it was the one store or what, but at Brilliant lighting warehouse we only acceped store returns, never received one from Harvey normans, just from harvey normans customers. Now I havent worked there for 1.5 years so I dont know if the story has changed or not. But its enough to put me off HNs for good.
