Well with HD DVD finally making an effort in the country and player sales numbers picking up, I felt it was high time for a region coding companion thread to the Blu-ray Region Coding thread.

So without further ado, Here is list of HD DVD's that have been confirmed region free:

:excl: EVERY DAMN ONE RELEASED ANYWHERE IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD :excl:

Ok, so there we go.

Sure.

How about Mr and Mrs Smith from Fox?  Out now on HD DVD, but not on blu-ray.

How about Underworld EVolution from Sony?  Out now on HD DVD

How about Bridge to Terrabithia from Disney?  Coming shortly to HD DVD

I could go on, but I think you get the picture.

nice try though.

Hey Tobes, go read the HD-DVD spec from beginning to end and kindly show us the bit detailing the Region coding system for HD-DVD?

What ... no way .... really ... there isn't any region coding mechanism in the spec  ..... no seriously, none at all? ......  Well I'll be a monkeys uncle!!!

:D  Sorry Al.  Just having some light hearted fun.  Has been a serious day with the whole price cut fiasco.  But in fairness, quite a few newcomers to the HD formats aren't aware of the region coding issue.  So while this is a bit tongue-in-check, any newbies doing a search on HD DVD and region coding will get something of value out of it.

I think we need to sticky it just to make sure no-one forgets. :P

not an exhaustive one.  I'm sure human media does though.  I'm not fluent in enough languages to find them all.  But there are some in our own backyard like Total Recall and the Rambo movies.

What's this with 'you guys'?  I was only kidding, of course.  That said, I really don't think any of those are examples that I'll be getting on Blu-Ray even if they were released, unless an extra included Angelina Jolie naked.

Apocalypto is a great movie though, either format.
