Yes, the Foxtel replay looked great, didn't waste my time watching it on 9.

And no ad breaks at all :) The way sport should be in native HD. Even recorded it.

Don't mind Origin on a 3 hour delay in Perth as long as it is in native and crystal clear HD. I am happy.

It was shown in Perth delayed and on the main SD channel, so failure on both counts there.

Not HD but I found this interesting that Setanta wrote on their facebook page from June 4th we will double the bandwidth of our current signal for all customers to improve picture quality.

Interesting that they even posted that. They currently have an average bitrate of around 3.0 Mbps.
Given that Ovation is disappearing soon on the same transponder it looks like Setanta will buy the extra spare bandwidth. Ovation is currently using ~ 3.1 Mbps so assuming Setanta takes the lot it will look a hell of a lot better at 6 Mbps!

PQ on Setanta Sports can only improve.

How can you guys be happy with a delayed HD broadcast?

I don't see the point in watching sport delayed.

What matters is how it's shown live!

Granted, Foxtel don't have the live broadcast rights to the SOO. I just don't see delayed HD broadcasts as a reason to be happy paying for Foxtel..

I don't give a rats whether it's live, I still record it and watch it when I want to, I get to skip the ads (if there are any) as well as the  incredibly boring studio crap that seems to go hand in hand with most sports, the hideous marching girls, people singing anthems off key, etc. etc., I also won't watch F1 or MotoGP in SD and wait for the HD replay. Most times I manage to avoid learning the score but I still watch, even if I know the outcome.

Similar situation coming up with 7s coverage of this year's AFL grand final, although there's no point in watching the delayed telecast on Fox Footy HD as it will be upscaled!

If that happens, it'd be due to the increasing pressure on them through the season. Not something they'd planned on doing pre-season (unless there's proof of them claiming it?).

No worries about that,by the time the hawks win their next flag everything will be in HD.

7 couldn't be that arrogant surely? I'd expect the GF at least to be in HD. What a joke if it isn't. Even the 2010 Grand Final was shown in 3D on Channel 7.

Massive call. I'm a bombers fan, & can't see us making it that far. You might have to make do with a win over the pies.
(I might buy that BD too)..

I'm a Bombers fan also, but the way things are going you may have to beat Adelaide. (Unfortunately!)

Not really into this royal stuff but the picture quality of the Queens Diamond Jubilee activities on UKTV HD is truly excellent. Looking forward to watching the concert tomorrow night.

I really enjoyed it too but it wasn't showing the HD symbol, so I'm assuming that it wasn't HD, all the other Jubilee broadcast also don't show as being HD. Only the widescreen symbol is showing. Not quite as moving as the Coronation was (yes, I do remember) but still wonderful.

The 8 London Olympics SD and 8 HD channels are now active on the sat with the following transponder details:

11886V 27800 kS/s: London 1-8 SD channels (4 Mbps video each)

11969V 29455 kS/s: London 1-8 HD channels (also 4 Mbps each BUT with 13.3 Mbps of null packets that still haven't been allocated so this will no doubt change)

Interestingly they haven't bothered this time to have a separate mosaic tile channel showing all 8 channels at once. It would be a waste of bandwidth if they did.
In any case, the bitrates I predicted are there and they've gone and squeezed 8 HD channels onto a single transponder for the first time. No doubt it will be done to other transponders in the future when viewers accept that the London Olympics HD channel quality is what HD "looks like" on Foxtel.
