i read a couple of articles on the 'net where one said 'yes' you will notice a difference with better cables, while the other predictably said the opposite.
so do more people say better cables/better sound?
i read that i should get 16 gauge cables? so would this particular wiring be ok do you think?

as to anything else making a difference. answer is simple. check with most specialist stores most have cable sets they use. ask if can borrow a set over a weekend or overnight. try for yourself. if find its worth gettting get em. otherwise dont bother

Some of the stuff is absolute wank - Ive seen on a certain popular brand speaker cable markings that say "Signal Flow >>>>>" down one side of the cable.... (Audio is AC).

its just the usual hoopla that surrounds any mention of 'cables' in a discussion that seems to drive people in a frenzy

You will see from the chart that very long speaker cable runs are possible for any given loss in DB for a stated speaker impedance.
Just select the wire diameter and the speaker impedance and you have the maximum length for any acceptable loss in power.
There is nothing more to it than that.
There is also a .PDF available of the chart, just google 'Speaker Cable Selection Guide'

because its about tuning, what is best for me may not be best for you.. hence the mass debate.
for long runs (say > 3m) i'd go budget. have look at online webshops and take your pick. if you need to terminate with plugs or spade, see if you can find non brass ones. i got some fantastic spades from hk but alas they don't make em anymore.

for some reason i thought this was about ht. juz realised its wrt 2channel. in that case one should be able to hear differences. ymmv, but i like ribbonteks. approx $500-600 but considering the quotes from this thread this is pocket change. or save even more by diy your own flat cable.
