5.1 obviously is front left; front right; centre; surround left; surround right and subwoofer.

If your amp says it is 7.1 ready then it must have 2 extra speaker connections for the surround back left and right channels.

some avrs are 7.1 ready but only have 5channels of amps on board. rotel do it with some of their avrs 7.1 ready but only have amps and speaker connections for 5 speakers, if want to go 7.1 you have to hook up another 2ch amp and use the pre-outs on the avr to feed it. then have full 7.1 capability. generalzod probably need to clarify what your actual amp is so can clarify if this si the case.

According to thye owners manual, the 5100 is not 7.1 capable at all. Only the 6100 but the rear surrounds run via a power amp.(can do 6.1 powered)

Ok i need help! i have a connection problem....

Onkyo TX-SR575        AMP
Sharp LC-46PD7X       LCD TV
Onkyo DS-A2X           I POD Dock
Panasonic DMR-EX75   DVD Recorder


Currently i have connected,
the DVD via HDMI direct to TV
TV to AMP via Optical
IPOD Dock to Amp CBL/SAT + RI


do i need to get another HDMI cable? should i connect the DVD to Amp via HDMI then Amp to TV via HDMI?

also how do i get the IPOD Dock menu to come on to TV?

This would be better asked in the Home Theater Subforum.  Anyway, this is what I would have done:

     LCD  <--- HDMI ---> 875 <--- HDMI ---> DVDR
                                      
iPod connects to the 875 also.

You can pack the optical cable away for a rainy day.

Why can't I create a new topic?

Anyways I was wondering if you could help me out i have recently purchased a song Bravia 46"X-Series and im looking for a decent home entertainment system for it. Im looking for a home-theatre-in-a-box type one, as my budget is limited but I want to be able to play it through my TV, The one that I bought with my TV (sony dav-dz750k) would only play through my DVD player.
Any recommendations?
also is the brand Onyo available in Australia?

Hi, new here, so please be patient with me

I have purchased a JVC th-g31 and its all working fine and sounds teriffic. I have a HDMI cable from my Samsung LCD Tv and Optical cable running to the back of the DVD.

A couple of audio cables run from the DVD to the Austar box, and everything works well.

What I cannot figure out and don't understand, is why I cannot receive sound through the home theatre when I am not using Austar and viewing free to air TV. The sound only comes from the built in TV speakers.

Would appreciate any help.

Hey guys, I have a budget of ~30k for my home theatre equipment (AV receiver, speakers, cables and projector). As a newbie to this stuff I've been doing a lot of reading but I'm getting overwhelmed with all the options. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Probably best to ask this in the Setup, Design & Construction section.  It will help if you include room dimensions (preferably with a floor plan) and level of light control as these can impact projector choices, as well as whether you are strictly HT, or want good music playback too (latter may influence % allocated to sound vs vision).

Hi all,
I have just purchased a set of Klipsch RF82II 5.1 speaker system.
Now I am looking for an AVR to run them.
Down the track I would also like to run another set of speakers outside and also possibly in the kitchen/dining area.
The main use will be for movies, but also some music.
I have been looking at the Denon 3313 and also 4520.
What do other people think?
