I received mine yesterday too :) Had a quick flick through the film and the 3D effect is just as good as I remember it being in the cinema. Playback was perfect through the PS3 - the only difficult bit was the menus, in which it's very difficult to tell what is selected as the colours for the selected and non selected items are very similar.

Thanks for the info, James.

The PS3 really is something else, isn't it? I guess the only downside is it's inability to do 3D and HD audio simultaneously, but still, they've done an awesome job just to get the thing to play 3D at all.

Hd-abc123, would be interested to see how it goes on your BD6900. Was not aware that people weren't able to play it. If so, I wonder if it's just a matter of upgrading the firmware?

Hey Guys
Noticed that they have Avatar Extended & Avatar Extended Collectors edition @ Big W for sale. Now I already have Avartar on Blu-Ray and wanted to get this Extended version, what one should I get? Extended or Ultimate Extended Versions. I also want to get it in 3D, does the 3D Version come in Extended when it comes out or will it be just the normal version but in 3D?

I'm sure there will be at least 6 more version released before they release the 3D version.

And then there will be 6 different 3D versions released, about 6 months between each release.

I can't find any information on an Ultimate Extended version, just the extended version.

There's 3 versions that come with the Tin JB exclusive set

1. Theatrical Version

2. Theatrical Extended Version (additonal 8mins)

3. Collectors Extended Edition (additional 16mins)

The $48 one at Big W just has some collectable stuff with it - a book and film cell IIRC. The $26 one has exactly the same content on the discs and is the same as the JB version apart from the tin.

None of them have the 3D version of the film, but apparently there is a small amount of 3D content on disc 3 as an Easter Egg:

The 3D version is currently Panasonic exclusive and you'll get it free if you're an existing owner of a Panasonic 3D set, or purchase a new one.

Picked one up this afternoon from BigW $26.86, don't bother going to JB unless you are wanting them to price match.

I wonder how much Panasonic paid for the exclusive deal.

Is there is a firm date on when it expires, I'm hoping for early next year.

3D version is bare bones, so expect an extended edition, and a collectors edition of that at some stage as well.

I got 2 4 minute scenes from http://www.biohemmet.se/ and they were very impressive, not sure if they are the easter egg content.

Thisafternoon, JB Doncaster had all their Avatar and Knight and Day shelf stock re-stickered to match the Big W (25/11 catalogue) prices. I picked up both  :D

Exclusivity window is supposed to be 1 year so dont expect it in the first half of next year.

Correct. I purchased it Monday at JB and apparantly a JB exclusive as per their website:

http://www.jbhifionl...-blu-ray/578385

Not sure if it's worth the extra $$ though.

Just finished watching some snippets, didnt have time for the whole film.

Quality is excellent, probably the best 3D i have seen yet, it looks every bit as detailed as it 2d counterpart.

One thing that i found quite distracting though was when people/objects that are not infocus during the scene are still in 3D, i know thats how its supposed to be i just didnt notice it in the cinema.  One example is at the start of the film when the general is walking past his recruits. He is the furthest forward object on screen and in your glasses but he is not in focus so it looks a bit blurry, i guess because animation has everything in focus all the time its something i havent seen in 3D before.

Apart from that slight niggle which is no fault of the disc, its everybit as good as i saw at the cinema and could of expected.

Also, the disc played fine in my BD6900 after the new firmware update
