Here's an interview with Kim Williams on 6th May 2011,

http://www.businesss...6K?OpenDocument

Quote

SB: Regarding that reference to the lower churn, Kim, one of the interesting things that's happened over the last couple of years is that even though the net subscriptions have been flatlining, your yields have been rising because people have taken up the HD and IQ type products. The AFL deal presumably is going to give HD a huge boost?

KW: Yes. In fact, the HD commitment that we made to the AFL is one of the central platforms of our competitive differentiation against our terrestrial competitors – and also, obviously, against the internet. We are really committed to having sport in HD. Every game we originate of the AFL will be originated in native HD, so that the quality of the pictures for the games that we’re producing will be second to none. With the commercial networks, where they are originating in HD, we’ll be obviously giving it in native HD, but where they are not originating in HD, we’ll be doing what’s called up-converting, which means actually giving greater pixelation to the pictures. And while that’s not a true native HD picture, it certainly will be a better quality picture – because we are committed to delivering sport in the very best kind of way for fans.

The first I heard of Foxtel not doing games in HD was just before the season started when their CEO stated in on SEN radio. Before then, & since the rights announcement last year, Se7en wouldn't confirm nor deny it.

As for what Kim said about Fox upscaling those games, I'm assuming he mentioned this just prior to the season also (& not when the rights were agreed upon)?

As SLE has pointed out it was mentioned in the big rights deal press conference with fox, seven and telstra head honcho's all present.
PS. To be fair the whole rights announcement wasn't broadcast on FTA but was live on fox so may explain some people missing the "fine print"

What has got people annoyed though are the claims of 'brilliant' and 'stunning' HD, the ch 7 games look like crap. There are no disclaimers or fine print on the ads, just bold, and ultimately false and misleading, claims of every game in high definition.

And I agree they are a full of it saying they expected 7 to give them a HD feed, it's been known since the rights deal was announced that the 7 games would be SD, they're only saying that now because so many people are pissed off.

They've starting showing ads for ANZAC Day "see it like never before, live and in high definition".
What a load of crap, ONE would have the game live and in high definition (and actual HD too, not Fox Footy's 'polished turd' from ch 7)

Thank you! Finally some actual evidence of Foxtel being aware of what they were going to get from Se7en.

Now we know they're lying to us, saying they expected these games to be HD. More reason to NOT sign up to this dodgy mob.

I have less hope that they'll fix it now because all Se7en has to do is remind them of that interview.

Unprofessional stuff, Foxtel…

Still reliving the greatest ANZAC Day game I've been to... 2009... ZAHARAKIS!

Got home that night, was able to watch the replay of ONE's live HD broadcast - stunning picture and 5.1 sound

Hey Fox, you forgot about that one, huh? The 5.1 sound? See, we have seen it BETTER than what you are promising us, and not that long ago either... (and the best part was the last 7 minutes of the game.. the best part.. Ch10/ONE did NOT cut to commercial breaks after each goal! We got to hear Quarters, Lane, Darcy, Walls and Howie continue to comment, as well as replays from multiple angles)

So yeah, we've seen it before, and much much better

Yep, that was certainly a ripper!

That was then and this is now, I think we all agree that the 'one' broadcasts were very good, but, those days are gone.

The best broadcast NOW is on Fox, channel "we love footy" 7 is like looking at a tv through the front window of my '72 Mazda capella after driving through a locust plague! And as for McAvaney, jeeze he is painful to listen to.

The deal is done so its too late now, but, it would be nice for the AFL to step in and have a word to 7 about the way they are 'showcasing' this sport..

It still baffles me as to how far we have gone in reverse since all the multi channel television started a few years ago.

Had a chat to a Foxtel bloke in one of those shopping centre booths. Even he admitted to noticing the non-HD games coming from Se7en.

Spread the word; The more Foxtel salespeople made aware of them losing customers due to this lie, the higher the chance of something being done about it.

----------

Is there a YT link to that shocking Brett Kirk video? It is the most cringe-worthy thing I've seen in a while.

Here in boringly beautiful Canberra we get AFL on 7mate live for the four games. Though 7mate is the digital channel capable of 1080hd, nothing like that is being broadcast. It's better than that first match in Sydney, but then it had to be, didn't it.

Before 10 lost the rights contest, we got real hd on One. Looked stunning on the big plasma screen. I almost wish I hadn't experienced it, to be honest, because nothing since on fta has been as good. So much for progress ...

How does the 7 feed upscaled on Foxtel look?
