Do you get HD channels OK (downscaled) on your s video output?
I have a distribution system based on composite output from a Mystar SD and I have been holding off going to the HD until I can confirm that I can get downscaled HD channels outputting on composite.

Yes I get all the channels, sd and hd both austar and local. I'm also using sd crt tvs in some rooms and they all work fine.

I do know that the remote signal receiver on Mystar HD is different from the one on SD.  I know this because I have a MX500 learning remote which appeared to have learned the signals from the Mystar SD remote, but the receiver did not respond to them.  Now I find (to my great satisfaction) that Mystar HD does respond to my learning remote.  So maybe it is something to do with the sensitivity of the IR receiver on the box.

What I don't understand is why, if I'm using the same remote for both the sd an hd austar boxes they respond differently to the transmitter which sends the signal from other rooms. Maybe you are correct and it is simply a matter of sensitivity.

Doug
you could move the IR sender, in front of the Austar box, closer and further away and see if that makes a difference. The signal may be too strong or too weak (sensitivity) as has already been suggested.

I also believe that the HD box has a filter that will parse any foreign signal (such as those being re-transitted from an RF sender) to prevent the crap that happens with the SD box and its remote issues.

Thanks, I'll try that. I'm also looking at the Jaycar kit if all else fails.

I have just finished constructing the kit from Jaycar and it works fine with the new mystar hd box.

I don't know if these comments have been added already but I'll do it again as they don't seem to be there. I have built the Jaycar remote extender kit which has solved the problem. Also for those who are trying to save Austar live and recorded programmes, I am doing it by sending the signal to my computer with the svideo link and feeding it into my hauppage card. The wintv programme which comes with this programme accepts the signal without problems, although several other programmes will not.

HI, I'm using the Hauppage HVR 2200. It has no trouble at all capturing Mystar recordings both SD and HD and also live tv. Using the Wintv programme that comes with the card works fine, although when I switched to windows 7 there were issues until they released a new version. Some other programmes will not allow capture so it seems to be a software issue as much as anything. I also found that the programme Sage tv was succesful in capturing austar although I found it less intuitive to use.

Hello all,

I had MyStar installed about 3 months ago and since day 1 its been doing some crazy things, if i push any button on the remote it will do some other action instead of the one i intended. Pressing the mute turns the box off... pressing the sound changes the channel... pressing a number will take me to my recordings.. most time i have to press the buttons at least 3 times before it then takes me to the wrong option anyway. I can't scroll through the channels because pressing the up or down buttons for longer than half a second will either turn the box off or do some other crazy thing. I tried the old remote too and that was doing the same thing, funny thing about the buttons not responding too is that i can see it register on the mystar box with a green light but nothing happens.

I called up Austar about this and they said they are aware of this problem and its related to my plasma TV. They also said they had new boxes coming in soon but I havent heard from them and the "New" boxes were due in last month (yes, they said they would contact me).

I'm wondering, is anyone else getting this problem, its driving me up the wall.

Yes, I have the same problem and I think that others do as well.  I was frustrated that 100% of my recordings were lost when my sd mystar was replaced 2 weeks ago with the remote frustrations being one reason for the replacement.  But 2 nights ago I was watching live tv on delay, hit the rewind button while in play mode, the box stopped the playback and went to a different channel so I lost what I was viewing in delay mode.  I don't have the same degree of problems you described but on occasion this new sd box will do the opposite to what I am pressing on the remote.

I'm thinking TIO here, I dont think Austar are going to come to the party on their own. Hard to believe they put out a product like this knowning full well its full of bugs and they still advitise it non stop.

I also have another issue where the new +2 channels like discovery +2 will stop being able to be viewed as soon as a something gets recorded.

I live just up the street from Austar, maybe i should pay them a visit and get a new box but the last guy i spoke to on the phone about it said a new box wouldnt help if it was the same model.

Many others, including myself, have had their sd mystar replaced, for me so far it was just the once, but others in here it has been several times so that confirms what you are saying.  What annoyed me was, there was no indication by anyone I had spoken to at the time of booking the Technician to say my mystar was going to be replaced even though they knew the extent of the problems I was having.  I was just told they'd send a Tech to look at it then confirmed the booking time.  Like others in here, I was disappointed to lose recordings from the cost perspective.

After getting your box replaced did it fix the issues, even in a small way? Just wondering if its worth going to the hassle of getting it replaced... taking the day off work to let the tech in

I had our box replaced 4 times and it still played up.We have upgraded to the HD box and its worth the extra cost to upgrade and have a box that works and is responsive.

There seems to have been a mixed reaction to the hd box, nutmeg, so it's good to hear yours is working well.  I'm undecided at the moment.  Plazma - yes, the replacement box does seem better, it's not freezing, restarting itself of its own accord, no failed recordings, but the remote is still behaving a bit strange which leads me to think, is it an issue for Austar to replace the remote when they replace the box?

I don't know if anyone else has experienced their mystar sd restarting itself, but my replacement box has begun doing it in a similar way as the previous one.  I set it to record two 30 minute programs recently and when I checked it about 18 hours later, the box was permanently restarting itself but very early into the start up it would keep restarting itself.  Had to unplug it then plug it back in and it worked ok but both recordings had failed with the reason being 'power failure'.  Tech support said that the box has had a power failure and to try recording programs for the rest of the week and let them know if it does it again.

Having whinged endlessly to Austar about the series link bug that forces you to retain at least one recorded episode of a series linked show, or the entries for that show in the Planner's Booked tab are deleted overnight, I was delighted to see that bug finally get squashed.

Then I thought... it's Austar... what's the bet they've stuffed it so that you can't completely cancel a linked series by deleting all entries in both the Booked and Recorded tabs.

Bingo! Twice I've removed all traces of a show from both Planner tabs, and twice the series linked entries have returned overnight to the Booked tab.  

Next attempt will be to unlink it before deleting it.

We got our Hd connected a few days back.  At first we were over the moon.  Having jumped from the old analogue box to the Hi Def it was awesome.......and then we tried to record some live tv to our dvd recorders hard drive for later transfer to disc.  We got knocked back by our recorder and a 'copy protect' message came up on the screen.
We were livid when we realised that Austar had taken away our right to fair use without even telling us.
If a video stabiliser doesn't work (and we are working on picking one up from Jaycar) then Austar can have their box back in exchange for the old type as soon as our contract trial period is up.

Other than that....I am having some regular trouble skipping from program to program.  EG: I am watching Lifestyle and while I am watching a program I scan back and forth to see what else is on.  I find a show on Fox8 so press ok and it doesn't go.  Sometimes it jams on the one channel and won't go to the other channel I want to watch.  It will say on the bottom of the screen that it is there, on Fox8, but it is not, it is still on lifestyle.

My Mystar HD has not missed a beat since I got it. I have also stayed away from HD viewing and recording. The pluses of this approach. So much recording space that I have heaps of movies for viewing. Its faster and the remote controls work without drama. I am going to cancel my HD channels after 1 month and I will get them back when they sort out the box. That is, when I see all you guys no longer have troubles. Maybe I better not hold my breath.

For some reason when i use Optical Audio going from Mystar HD to my Yamaha 5.1 Amp, the Mystar volume level is fixed, wether i have it on the very highest or the very lowest the volume does not change. Is this normal ?

Yes this is normal. Dolby does not allow for volume control on AC3 for Dolby certified devices, only PCM. Just change the volume on your Yamaha. :-)
