I would like to buy a set of the nvidia dvd decoders. Unfortunately their site won't let you pay for them if you live outside of the USA. Does anybody know of any other site that allows you to purchases these codecs?

Nvidia have a 30-day free trial download of the decoder. Maybe there are cracks around as well if you're into this sort of thing. I'm not philosophically opposed to it in this instance as I can't believe nvidia don't provide the decoder free with their graphics cards.

I can't believe it either.
The 7800GTX series costs over $700 and they still want you to spend more for the codec. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)
Nvidia is tricking you into believing that you get all the advanced video features when you buy the card. The fact is:you still need to spend more money to get Pure Video to utilise the hardware.
It's like buying a Subaru STI and then paying Subaru extra money to enable turbo charger on it even though the turbo was advertised as a standard feature.

Couldn’t agree more with all of the above. I don’t usually condone cracking software, but nVidia not including Purevideo software as a standard software feature, when the hardware decoding power of the card is just sitting their idle is ridiculous.

Let's just say I’ve been "evaluating" Purevideo for ages now, and I don’t seem to remember purchasing it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

As I said in my original post I actually don't have a problem with purchasing them. I find it absolutely infuriating that not only do they not include them in their standard driver package but you can't actually buy them to use if you live outside of the USA! How ridiculous is that?

To use the analogy above it would be like Subaru saying not only do you have to pay extra to enable the turbo but they won't sell you the code to unlock it unless you live in Japan!

If you have purchased the PureVideo Decoder from a reseller (not NVIDIA) or it was pre-installed on an OEM computer, download the OEM Update KIT.

good luck finding a reseller though

You can buy the TheaterTek DVD player which has them but it's more expensive (obviously) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) http://www.theatertek.com/Products/DVD/Sup.../downloads.html

The situation as it stands is absolutely f**king ridiculous (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

I also say do whatever it takes. nVidia deserve the same consideration and repect they are showing us, ie none to speak of.

From reading reports on AVSForum, the anicdotal evidence is that only TT is able to take full advantage of the PureVideo decoder by producing superior HD picture quality compared to Zoom Player and Media Player. This makes me think that the best of what PureVideo has to offer can only be fully utilised outside of DirectShow interface.

Let's all boycott Nvidia and start buying ATI Radeon cards.
I'll buy another ATI card as soon as they come out with the new generation hardware that supports H.264 encoding/decoding.

It's not just Theatretek that can take advantage of PureVideo... WinDVD also benefits greatly from it... http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/PureVideo/3

BUT, don't you find it silly that in order to make full use of the nVidia hardware, you need to pay extra for PureVideo AND Theatretek/WinDVD?!?!? Seriously, where's the bloody logic?

Can someone explain to me how ATI's H.264 encoding features can be utilised by any H.264 encoding application - is encoding part of some DirectX API? If not, it's really up to each application to take unusual steps to take advantage of any special features of the card (vis-a-vis, TT's support of PureVideo for Nvidia), isn't it?

Well, it depends. Nvidia's responsibility is to provide video drivers and access via DirectX. However, if operating system provides no way to PureVideo's unique features via the driver/DirectX mechanism, as is my understanding, then it's not really their fault and there's little they can do except complain to Microsoft. Instead, what they have done is develop their own software (the MPEG2 decoder) and market it as an additional product with only TT (and I guess WinDVD) being able to utilise it to full extent.

Don't forget ATi's newest form of deinterlacing - "Directional Motion Adaptive Deinterlacing"

How does one use it? Nobody knows

Are you still looking to purchase? I managed to set-up an account using one of nVidia's own addresses and my mobile phone number. Since the activation code is downloaded shipping address does not matter...

These do work under directshow and you don't need nVidia video card, I use ATI.
