A salesman told me not to bother with a 100 hz tv because the 100 hz part is in the tv's analogue tuner and I'll be using a sd stb.

So my question is "When using a SD stb will I benefit from a 100 hz crt?"

I expect the answer to be yes and the salesman was wrong!

Jason.

If the TV truly accepts a 50Hz input from the STB and displays it at 100Hz then you will have the benfeit of reduced flicker.  Your quotation of the salesman implies that he thinks the 100Hz only applies to the TVs tuner and not to the input from the STB.  The definitive answer can only come from the TVs own manual.

Well it depends on the TV but I would be suprised if it only did it with the internal tuner. Don't trust the salesmen!

100hz is to do with the tube's refresh rate - I don't see what that has to do with the tuner at all. The tube has to be able to refresh at 100hz regardless of what input you're using.

Thanks, I thought the salesman was wrong...
100 hz crt here I come. The thread about why so many are buying lcd and plasma helped me decide on crt.

Actually it depends soley on what you're feeding it... I believe all 100Hz CRTs can only apply 100Hz on 480i/576i sources

Yea that's how the Sony's do it. Once you intput pro scan or HD, no 100Hz.

EDIT: I imagine that it would be too much for the tube to handle otherwise.
