I've tried to use component with no success, the problem looks like a lack of hoizontal sync. Does this sound like the often mentioned YUV problem with the Toppy?
Sounds to me like you tried the component cables, but you didn't set the Topfield output to component.    You nearly always have to make sure the output setting is the same as the one you want, use the always on composite output to feed to whatever (old TV, plasma, whatever) to enable you to see the menu system.

Went into Dick Smith Powerhouse at Highpoint today armed with printout of this thread.

Lowest manager would go to was $890 for 120Gb. (and it was the display model)

Told them I would come back when they had sharpened their pencil a bit more.

If other people have got them around $850 then I don't see any reason for me to pay any more.

I could spend $40 on a carton of beer to drink whilst watching Toppy recordings

Especially when it's the display model.  That should knock another $50- off anyway.

I got $850 at DS Nunawading way back in mid October (about page 5 of this thread I think). I simply walked in said "I want one of those, I will pay $850.00, here is my credit card." Five minutes later (after the salesman had talked with his supervisor I walked out with the Topfield.
Be positive if one DS store can do it so can others.

I don't understand why anyone who is aware of this thread would ever pay more than $850 for a toppy?! Yet some of you do!???

I totally agree!!!

I only paid $810 for my 120gb toppy.

And even then I wasnt happy!!!!

Mind you I could of got it for $805 but couldnt be bothered drivin further.

Paying over $840 for one would make me... :P

But then again I enjoy the bargaining and haselling sales people...  :P

Some people have a life...

I visited Bing Lee at Westfield Chatswood tonight and saw Michelle.

She said that they were out of Topfield 5000PVRt and were unlikely to order in more. In addition, she was not thrilled with the attention she has got for the $840 price on the 120GB model that one of the dba users bought on the 7 Jan.

She said that the $840 was a "once only" price and had not expected to have the number of enquiries at that pricing. She said that a $870 would have been a more reasonable price (yeah, I know you are sitting there saying "Why shouldn't we beat them down on price and leave them bleeding in the gutter afterwards.")

So, although I'm not in any great hurry, has anyone got any more suggestions on getting a price around $840-50 for a 120GB 5000PVRt? I might try DS Powerhouse at Ryde, since that seemed to have a reasonable price even it it took some haggling to get it to that level and a printout of the forum conversations.

Thanks,
Bill

I love it.  The internet is the great equaliser.  Puts some power back in the hands of the consumer.

the best place I found who would negotiate was Good Guys.

But dont waste time, drivin around, just ring them.

I got my $810 toppy from Richard at Auburn Good Guys, but all the others were willing to compete as well.

If they dont wanna play ball.. walk away... cause if you accept their price it makes it harder on the next consumer to negotiate
