Same with a 2ch setup, if your first, see if can pull together something with some affordable components, that way if find not really your thing and don't really end up spending a lot of time with it no too much a loss and all soon flogged off at about what you paid. Plenty of bargains on eBay and for about the cost of this entire device 2nd hand reckon could pull something together pretty decent.
It is really my thing.. :P Not missing 5.1 at all... :P

That's not to hold you back buying something like this. If does take your fancy and must have it hehe then go for it !
I have the patience to wait on this I guess.. Hopefully somebody will buy it and review it first.. :ninja: So DAB+ really still at infancy huh?  Good to have but not critical I guess.. DLNA is though..

Just happy that CE makers are finally releasing something I want now.. :P All thanks to the Denon though, it really made me realise just how useful a network player can be.

You setup for 2ch already treb, sorry I didn't pick that, what you got ?

If just source after, have you got an iPod, because if do the cheapest way in would be a dock with quality over analog eg the ca id50. Couple of hundred bucks and that's it you'd have all you need, and utilizes the dacs in the iPod which are actually wolf sons if have a touch or iPhone. And capable of pretty decent result. You'd be suprised I reckon ! What have in my bedroom system for my 2.0 system there. Do have a disc player as well but thats considerably more in cost.

re dab+ if unsure, there are a couple of lot cheaper standalone tuners in the ca 650t which I have and is a quality piece over analog at 699, less if can bargain. Also the sangean with streaming capability and a bit cheaper too I think at 500 bucks or so.

Spoke to Quailif and they said though it is not in their system, they have new Marantz goods (including the 7 series) arriving in October.  So I'll check closer to the date.

I can almost bet it'd be more than $1200 here...

You sir have won your bet.  Looks like I will be importing it from the UK when it is released there.  Rumour has it to expect an Australian release date of October and a unofficial RRP of x2 the UK one :(

What do I win, a review? :P It's kind of a sure bet anyway.. :ninja:

Why not import from Singapore instead? YMMV but KEC is really really good when it comes to service. The question of coz is, will the DAB work? Maybe they can source a UK version for you?

Arrgh. Silver gold is worse than black... :D

There's always a hope I guess :P.. No 100% confirmation as yet. Granted black is unobstructive and sexy, etc... But my room is kindda gloomy, plus the rack is black.. Hence need it to be in lighter colour to "lift" the decor up.  Bling I guess....

ATM I'm doing a side project on using a computer to do what this net player is doing. Using Asus Essense STX with 100% bitstream. Got my 3x Burson OpAmps but unfortunately I broke the pins on the adaptor attachment thingy so I have no idea if they'd work or not (Anybody in Perth can help me do with some soldering work? :P).. Total cost for my little experiment is ~$1.5k, so if this player is available here in around that ballpark it's a fair deal.

Oct is just round the corner..

I dont mind it though, some of the nicest stuff have owned is in silver gold, under many guises, champagne gold, premium silver and what not ! that could just be the singapore market though, I noticed the player had a SG suffix. marantz has sold both silver and silver gold for their sa players for instance :)

More than likely as soon as I can confirm the outputs on the unit, as every article I have read has only mentioned inputs.

Saw this in another thread and thought I would bring this info in here as news of it having an AM Tuner was definetly good news to me.  Lets hope Paul from Qualifi can get us a better price that is more inline with the UK European version at 700 Pounds or $1200 Australian-

Quote

P.S. I went on the DTV forum, and noticed ‘Spero’ (I’ve spoken to him many times at Yamaha and here) is talking about the NA7004 in a thread. You may wish to clear a few things up about it (Feel free to quote me).

- There are different versions of the NA7004 for different markets. The Europe version only has a DAB/DAB+ tuner (that’s the version we bring into Australia. Only the Japanese version has the RX101 Bluetooth antenna included (an optional extra for us, like the SR6005 is).

- We are bringing both colours (Black and Silver/Gold) into Australia.

- All versions have an AM and FM tuner on board – I have a back panel drawing which shows the AM antenna connection.

- The Australian RRP is very high compared to other countries, and we are disappointed about this fact. We are continuing to push for a lower price before our Nov 1 launch, to improve its value-for-money in our market. We’re well aware of the Europe and US RRPs on the NA7004; we don’t know why the price is so high for this region.

Well I read somewhere the NA7004 has Wolfson DACS.

The big test for the Marantz is how it compares directly with the Transporter.

If it compares well, with the added bonus of usb and DAB+ / FM tuners in one box, it is a no brainer.

But, and a big but, I seriously doubt the wolfson dacs can touch the AKM AK4396 dacs of the transporter.

I think the NA7004 would probably be in the same league as the squeezebox units for sound quality, and you will still need an external dac to get to the high end of sound like the transporter has already built in.

I think official reviews of the NA7004 will most likely confirm my suspicions.

Plus I think the price of $800 US gives away the fact that it is aimed at the low end of the market.

The transporter, all Linn DS stuff, Olive and Naim units will still rule the high end for a while yet, I suspect.

Please correct me if I am wrong in my way of thinking.

Cheers

theokalat

Theok, where the dacs themselves in these devices tend to be pretty decent on their own, as you'd know it's in their implementation that tends to determine the end result. Additionally it tend snot to be the face on it's own but the analog stages, power supplies and the like that tend to bring good results. As can see in the link below, even the transporter that's good on it's own can be improved on in this regard with improved power supply and analog stages

http://www.6moons.co...ransporter.html

By the way there is some comment In the 2ch sub forum re the transporter being discontinued so best be quick if it's something keen on.

Re naims, linns and the like they have a pretty good pedigree in this regard. And I'd be pretty sure not only in the dac department but also in implementation, power supplies and analog stages they'd not leave you wanting for a pretty good result. They do however do also come at a pretty Hefty price tag.

With the marantz, it perhaps does sell for $800 in the us, however it seems we are getting it at 2.5k plus gst from last account. Perhaps not such good buying in that case. Decentdab plus tuners can be had from cambrdige and sangean for 399 to 699 Aussie. Then you'd need to add a dac with media playing capability to end up with level of functionality if the marantz here.

I'm hoping to check out the new litte apple tv, at around the 100 buck mark seems like quite a useful little unit for what it can do.
