I dont want this to be another HD DVD vs Blu Ray flamefest thread.....no siree Bob.  :P

I want this to be a SD vs HD flamefest thread instead.  :P

In view of some of the uppity nature of certain "other" camps I thought I would remind everyone that we Standard Definition DVD owners are quite happy with our products at the moment...thank you very much  :P

I believe this Club not only has the most members by far but the advantage we hold over these "other" camps is....

.......ITS ALREADY HERE    :P  :P

I currently own a modest little Marantz DV 4300 and let me tell you Sonny....(not Sony...Sonny)....I love my little Black Pearl......just the way she is...sleek, black and silky smooth.

So get down to your local video store,  beg borrow or steal from one of the millions of freely available DVD titles on the market at the moment and  enjoy  that awesome DVD quality picture and awesome surround sound........today!!!!!......(also in THX where available).

So Gentlemen, Fire up your Lasers, spin that platter, sit back and enjoy that latest movie, that latest music DVD or any of all that freely available porn......today!!!

Dont wait till March!!!!

Dont risk your hard earned dollars on a cheap foreign import from  Ebay

Dont buy a Sony (oops..product endorsement there...bad mello)

Get down to your local and support your local businessman

Hurry in today.......and stick it right up this new "format" aka Money Pit known as "High Definition" ..pffftt

...buy a SD DVD and enjoy the movies today just as the director intended it ....without all that fancy schmancy HD upscaling .....actually reminds me of the old colourising old Black and White movies debacle of the Eighties.

If the director intended a SD or a 16mm movie to be shown in HD he would have blooody well shot it in HD !!!!

Anybody else own SD?

Any news or developments?

Highjinx you are welcome to defect at any time.....Skid that goes for you too

Remember folks.....its already here!!!!.....and cheap as chups  :D

I watched Trasporter 2 on SD DVD on Sunday. The transfer was spectacular. The audio really had me immersed in the movie! I can't see how anything can beat SD DVD for the price I got it at!!!! And Best of all the DVD was purchased in Bali for $2 bucks!!

Is that what happens when they upscale?

Seriously I am way not into any artificially  upscaled old movies.

A lot of my favourite movies are the older non HD originals and to me it would be like getting a DVD version of an old VHS copy.......for quite a huge lightening of my wallet...naww not today thanks

Same, I've watched several SD-DVD in the past few days and they are just so soft and lacking in visual & sonic detail.

I love my SD DVD's :-)

and my laserdiscs.... no actually - those laserdiscs are ****, I fired one up the other day and it was **** - sounded ****, looked ****.. looks like it, smells like it - is it.

I remember buying Twister on DVD (from the US) when it first came out - the shitty, poorly compressed (its a disgrace actually) single-sided - watching it on my laptop (after hacking the software to allow region 1) on my SD 4:3 RPTV - and it looked **** (still does)..

So whats the point Bitey?? I hear you ask.. well things have come a long way - the new version of twister is much better and the DVD version looks and sounds better on DVD than it does on laserdisc (which I baught too for some Mon$ter Price)...

Im pretty happy with SD DVD - except for the odd jaggie here and there... im upscaling to 1080i and things are looking pretty good..

Im sure HD-DVD or Pox-Ray will eventually get there - once theyve locked it down so hard no one can watch anything.. then again perhaps its all a m00t point.

So very true, denon 2910 cost double what my Toshiba A1 cost and produces excellent results, but it is beaten to a bloody pulp by HD-DVD content on my A1.

So are carburetters, but you wont catch anyone ('cept nascar & hot rodders) using them instead of Fuel injection these days.

Despite MY's  left of center approach    this thread may well have some value. Most folk especially newbies are not going to go down the h-def road any time soon so it should be useful to talk about what's worthwhile  in the old :D  technology.

FYI: Those Bali/Hong Kong jobs are usually recompressed jobs - if its unencrypted and on a DVD5 then its not quite right :-)

I think its time to consider:

Would a good SD-DVD Transfer look better than a BAD HD-DVD transfer?
