Hi Curious,
I am not having that issue with my setup.   not sure what you mean by this " it seems that the very first volume setting on the remote is very loud with no way of reducing it without losing all volume (kind of like starting at 3/4 out of 10)

what avr do you have ?
cheers

I don't think you are quite understanding each other. Curious is running the Oppo straight into his active speakers, no pre amp in the chain. What he is saying is he is using the Oppo for volume control, but the lowest possible volume above silence is too loud and was wondering if it could be changed?

Not too many people I would imagine would be running without a pre amp of some kind in the chain.

Hi Brad,

I should have been specific  ^_^

I too am running analogue out to power amps for CD playback and BD, it seems that the very first volume setting on the remote is very loud with no way of reducing it without losing all volume (kind of like starting at 3/4 out of 10)
Hi Keiran ; there is one solution ;though a slegehammer on a walnut job  :o and means modification..

http://www.customanalogue.com/

or maybe someone local;

http://www.clarkeaudio.com/

those speakers deserve the best ^_^

This is not as loud on BD playback as I usually have to set the remote volume at 35-45 for some decent volume.

Odd thing I know, just wondering if anyone knew of an adjustment that could be made in the menu or manually in the player?

Regards,

Curious

Hi mate,

Don't know of any menu settings - sounds like you need some in-line attentuators e.g.

RCA

Balanced - scroll down as direct link not working

could just grab a stereo pre amp, couple of hundred dollars upwards... will save the speakers and give some reliable volume control..

Of course  :excl:  ; the 95 now has fixed or variable analog output as of a few firmwares ago so the digital pot can be negated if wanted; much easier..

Thanks for all the feedback guys (and apologies for big gaps in me viewing this thread)

One of the key reasons for buying this unit for me was to avoid any further electronics in the system so want to persue the 95s ability to manage settings/signal out and volume control for 2 channel then (ultimately) 7.1  :D

I haven't performed a firmware update on this unit as yet so maybe that will produce some subtle change -we'll see  ^_^

How is everyone performing their firmware updates on their units? Is there a hardware version, like a disc or flash drive available or is it only online?

Thanks again for all your advice  :)

Cheers,

Curious

Your choice mate; usb is easy no disc needed. The latest beta is not available online ;only the latest official.Note you cant go back to a previous revision if the beta has a problem ;) just click to find what the revision does..

IMHO
I don't really go for updates, unless there is an issue with my machine... the same goes for my computer updates too.

If you have the pro region free kit you will also need to upgrade the firmware on that to keep blu-ray region free capability when upgrading the Oppo firmware. Download here.

quark as a note, with recent official firmware update I did, it maintained the working of the pro region mod. I've got a feeling it was some beta firmware that screwed things up. but good to have the pro mod firmware in anycase...

You're a lucky man - I had mine lose region free when I loaded the previous Oppo beta - fixed that with the pro kit 1.0f firmware.  Then loaded the current official Oppo firmware and lost region free again - fixed with the 1.0g firmware.  Perhaps there's some variation in the hardware of the pro kits.

Sometimes a lucky dip.  Been popping in discs and never had a problem.  couple that would not play I throw into the Panasonic and all good to go.

Must admit have not done any updates

remember the old

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Release date: September 12, 2011
Category: Public Beta Release
Main Version: BDP9x-55-0902
Loader Version: CN0900
Sub Version: MCU93-09-0218 (BDP-93), MCU95-08-0218 (BDP-95)

Release Notes:

1. Added Pandora Internet Radio streaming. For public accounts (free registration), the audio quality is measured to be 44.1KHz/16bit, 2-channel. You can access Pandora through the player's Home Menu icon, Home Menu -> Internet, or by pressing SOURCE and selecting Pandora. Currently limited to U.S. residents only.

2. Improved the PGS subtitle support in M2TS/TS playback, through USB drive, external hard drive or DLNA streaming. Customers have reported that the movie picture could occasionally freeze up during the playback, while the OSD timing counter was still moving forward. The issue has been solved in this release.

3. Resolved the subtitle flickering or image stuttering issue during some 3D movie playback. This issue has been reported to happen randomly on some 3D movies released in Asia or Europe, sample titles include "Step Up", "SAW" and "Resident Evil: Afterlife".

4. Resolved the image vertical stretch issue observed on some legacy DVD's. Customers have reported that when playing these DVD's using HDMI 1 and setting Aspect Ratio to "16:9 Wide/Auto", the pictures were vertically stretched. This issue could happen to DVD's issued before or around 2000, and sample titles include "The Abyss", "Titanic", "TWELVE O'CLOCK HIGH (2002)" and "1941 (1979)".

5. Improved general disc compatibility based on recent and upcoming Blu-ray releases as well as user-submitted disc samples. Sample movies include "Avatar (3D)", "Journey to Mecca" and "Alice (2009 Miniseries)".

Maybe worth deleting the bd live rubbish in the persistent storage Al   The other thing is some firmware upgrades need a factory reset or weird things can happen..

One of the reasons i am not doing any update unless i get an issue or something wildly improves in the update.  While its not broken I am not going to fix it.

Probably just a ghost in the machine syndrome :)

and only ever done the one update brad, an official one at that. which needed me to reset the region free with having to force an update on that to fix it back up again so region free again. kinda tending to agree updates on these BD players seem more trouble than worth

Hi anyone keen to swap a pro mod oppo 93 for my oppo 95 for cash difference $700 which is difference in Aussie  rrp between the two from oppo shop ?

has to be Australian delivered pro modded and mint no scratches nothing with all original packaging receipt still under warranty etc. As this is what my 95 is

I am just thinking about a down scale as not really using the benefit of the 95 over the 93.

Anyways throwing it out there..might be of interest to someone with a 93 who wished they had a 95 !

Drop me a pm if interested :) ps this is not a forsale, so please dont pm me if you just want to buy my 95 out right as its not for sale  :P

Hi Oppo owners, I hope you can advise (and sorry if the topic's been addressed already). I own an 83 and a 95 and am very happy with them both. But one annoying aspect is that most of the time when I press 'stop' (only once) the disc does not remain at that position as the instructions say it should but I have to start the whole disc again and find the correct spot. Occasionally, I do the same thing and the disc resumes from that spot when I press 'play'.

What am I doing wrong?

If you're talking about blu-rays, then I seem to recall the disc has to be authored to support this and many studios CBF.

The resume function is disc dependent, rather than due to any issues with the Oppo, cheers.
