Nope no West Coast regional transmitters are running yet. Unfortunately its hard to make guesses as to when the various regional transmitters are upgraded but I can only assume that its not likely to happen that soon. Its been a long time since the last digital transmissions came on air. Best bet maybe to make a phone call to the broadcasters and ask them the question.

Queenstown/Zeehan has had ABC and SBS digital for a long time now, and Rosebery and Strahan have had ABC digital for a similar time.
WIN Tv is rumoured to have installed equipment on the Mt Owen (Queenstown/Zeehan) transmitter very recently, so it may be soon that WIN digital will be available, and if history repeats itself, then it wont take Southern Cross and TDT long to follow suit. The ACMA does not show any test licences for Queesntown but these can pop up without much warning.
Unfortunately no word on the Strahan and Rosebury Transmitters.
Cheers

The VAST service will take over from Aurora to provide 16 programs. You are not able to get reception until just before the analog switchoff in the first half of 2013. The Aurora receiver is not compatible with VAST.

Dave you are wrong, I live in Queenstown and I'm an ex TV and Radio technician, SBS only started their digital transmissions a few weeks ago and ABC started a few days ago.

It also seems that Quesstown/Zeehan are the only towns in the west to get and SBS service both in analogue and digital.

Let me rephrase myself then, Queenstown has had an ACMA licence to transmit digital TV from the Mt Owen transmitter for over a year. This is not a test licence, it is a full licence and has been active since 14th April 2009(ABC) and 14th March 2009(SBS). Strahan has had a licence to transmit ABC digital since April 2008, which was when the original microwave link was activated from Mt Wellington to Mt Owen. I have stayed at the Federal Resort at Strahan many times and they have modulated ABC digital available in the rooms.
So my question is this, why has Strahan had ABC digital since 2008 (which is from the digital microwave link on Mt Owen) but Queenstown has not???
I know of a few installers who swear black and blue that they have picked up ABC digital from Mt Owen (nobody has mentioned SBS). Unfortunately I have not been to the West for a few months now, so I am going on what I am told by installers in the area and what the ACMA website says.
Cheers

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your reply.
As far as I can gather Strahan was receiving ABC 1 & 2 digital from a temporary transmitter at the airport just outside Queenstown. This was unable to be received by Queenstown possibly due to a directional aerial pointed at Strahan ( just a guess having never sighted it).
Cheers.

My understanding is that Mt. Owen has a major issue with Power to the site.
BA have just installed Wind generation and Solar panels at the site to over come this.
I suspect digital install will commence shortly.

So the wind generators will be the prime source of energy then, I can't remember the last time I saw sun in Queenstown, but it is always windy! LOL

This area always seems to be the last to get anything despite being the area where most of Tassie's wealth is generated.
