I'm in two minds about ordering this one...Brad can be hit and miss.

Has anyone here got it that could pass some feedback on?

Thanks

If you haven;t seen it - do so first ........ BORING is the only word I could use to describe it.

At least Benjamen Button had an interesting story to it ... this one is less than engaging and rather depressing.

Now I'm REAL glad I asked before buying!

I recall Margaret and David were at opposing points on this one

Thanks for the feedback

Yeh Margaret gave this 5/5 - which in itself basically guarantees this film isn't going to be for everyone

They both gave Drive (Ryan Gosling) 3.5/5 which I find astounding .... if perhaps the story was about a Blond Haired, emotionally vacant boy with aspergers syndrome who is good at driving, them perhaps ..... but we are supposed to believe that the character played by Gosling is normal! WHF ..... clearly sub-normal is considered normal now going by this film ..... weird!

edit: re: Tree of Life, is suspect Margret found it fascinating because she has no idea what it;s like to grow up as a boy. if you were one, it's NOT that engaging.

One of the most over-rated films this year imo

Its a polarising movie. Some love it, some hate it.

Gets a great write up at highdefdigest.

See it and make up your own mind.

This and Melancholia are two of the better films released in 2011.

It does seem to fall into the love it or hate it category. Hate it and you loathe it, as some of the user comments on Blu-ray.com would indicate!

I'm looking forward to Melancholia - only the UK version has a release date so far

The film that blew me away this year was Barney's Version and that seems to be another that's divided the audience.

Yes. The reviews seem very mixed. DVD Beaver, Hi Def Digest and DVD Talk, all praise it. ^_^
It can't be all bad, if not only from a technical POV.
I'm looking forward to seeing it, but think I'll wait till the price drops.

Yeh, with Black Friday just around the corner I can't justify spending anything over $15 for a Blu-ray at the moment - as i may regret it then ;)

Malick's films are somewhat of an acquired taste. This is definitely not a blind buy if you haven't seen any of his other films. For me The Tree of Life is the best film of 2011 followed by Drive, and Melancholia.

I think in general you dont see a Malick film expecting fast pace, quick dialogue and Michael Bay's furious camera work, take thin red line for example, for a war movie its slow compared to Platoon, Private Ryan and Windtalkers but none the less you just cant help but be glued to the screen, the images, the acting and the emotion for the whole 3 hours.

Has anyone compared the Au release of this to the US version? I had bought it but not really had a chance to re-watch it and threw it in last night. It didn't seem to blow me away like the first time I saw it - PQ wise. The film grain seemed to bit a bit mosquito-y and float over the detail. The Oppo was saying avg bitrate was around 20mbps however the US reviews say its 35mpbs. Just wondering how much better the USA is!
