Hey guys,

Given the recent interest in expanding the 2ch forum, and many wanting a dedicated vinyl/turntable forum, figured we might as well atleast have a dedicated vinyl thread. A one stop shop for everything from "show us your rig" to what you've recently bought on black, to tips and info on getting the best from your TT.

Me, I'm in the midst of building a DIY turntable, something I figured, being a CNC machinist and CAD designer, I might as well have a go at. I won't go into too much detail for now until the new TT is finished(see my build thread for details). But will say it's kind of a cross between the last 3 TT's I've owned. Pro-Ject, Clearaudio and Rega. For starters it'll run into the phono stage of my MF A5i with an Ortofon 2M blue cart. Though I'm sure some day I'll upgrade the cart and if I go MC will also add a separate phono stage.
My current favourite record is probably Pink Floyd - Wish you were here.

So come on, show us ya rig ! What have you got ? And do you have an plans for the future ?

Cheers
Gutty

Good idea gutty :)

Mine is my dream rig, the rega p9.

http://www.dtvforum....t...ost&id=5602

Being my ninth life, I'll be going to the grave with it :o

I run it with the ortofon jubilee

And audio research ph5.

Makes for a lovely combo I think :)

Favourite music ?

Have to be stockfish closer to the music

Though I like a lot of the older stuff, can't get enough of it..

As I have described in this thread i appear to be sinking rapidly down the errrrr..... dark path so to speak..... :P

I recently upgraded my 2 month old beginer's TT to a Music Hall MMF7 with a Goldring Erioca H HOMC cart hanging off the tonearm.

Next upgrade is to put a nice light acrylic plinth under it as trials have found this gives the best results. :)

Al, that P9 of your's is a beautiful bit of kit, just beyond the budget of us mere mortals! Oops, is that JohnA I hear scampering in from the distance...... ;)

Yes lovely table the P9 Al. I take it you're well happy with the RB 1000 ? I considered it for my TT build but ended up going for something almost the same only completely different.... And a bit cheaper ;-)

Have you seen the P9 on ebay at the moment = beautiful rig with a very nice cart !!

Wish I didn't have huge school fees, end of year schoolies to pay for, then gigantic course fees first thing next year.
Oh well I guess it should only be a few more years and all the dollars we're pouring into education will pay off.

My old Hitachi DC servo will have to do for some time I'm afraid. She does sound pretty good for what she is though!

Fave album at the moment is CCR - Cosmos Factory.

just back into Vinyl after a 25 year abscence . Im using a transrotor TT with a shelter 9000 cartridge . Currently experimenting with PVA glue to clean my records (!)as described on audiokarma forums. Some headaches to Vinyl but worth the effort IMHO

An absolute beauty there Pete, can imagine the jump up from the humble old rega

Thanks guys, the rb1000, is a marvel of engineering gutty, rega make some lovely arms. but yeah unless can find one second hand, will be pricey if buying on it's own, and probably better cheaper options. Look forward to seeing what you come up with !

Looks a massive bargain, probably unlikely something like that come up again ! Grab it I say :D

Found a reference to my old beast :winky:

rare vintage
"Kenwood had some great success with the faux marble base turntables of the 70's. The KD-500/550 was an instant hit and loved by audiophiles".

coupled with an old SONAB swedish meatball intergrated amp I think I was well stocked and supplied to survive the worst the seventies had to throw at us

...never could quite understand the eighties though

See .sig for current TT / 2 channel stuff.

But I seem to be carrying a particularly virulent stream of the disease upgraditis. How soon I can be (temporarily) cured depends on how the GFC has affected dear Ol' Santa. If things aren't looking quite so rosy for him, perhaps the perennial Easter Bunny may be more financial.

I'm still composing my "Dear Santa" letter so haven't made up my mind / auditioned anything yet. Going by pure budget alone, would be looking at either this or this coupled with an Ortofon Black.

Any / all suggestions welcome. As would any donations! :winky:

weighed about 20 kilos from memory
