I can't believe that the ashes starts next Wednesday and no one has vented their disappointment that the ashes are exclusive to gem and us lucky ones with foxtel won't be able to watch the far superior quality fox sports mpeg 4 broadcast. I only found this out last night when i was looking for it in the foxtel guide for next Wednesday and wondering why it wasn't listed, did some research and found out the bad news.
I am shattered that i will have to put up with nines second rate broadcast with all its lovely compression artifacts.
Let me know your thoughts...

Well, at least most of it is in HD (here in Adelaide anyway).

It could be worse. It could be on nine and have bill Lawry commentating.

I'm completely the opposite... I'm stoked it's on GEM and not Foxtel. :)

This ensures the audience is much larger than just Foxtel subscribers... which it should be being a national sporting event.

Sure the PQ may have been slightly better on FOX, but GEM is HD 1080i (albeit on a lower bitrate) and usually looks reasonable when cricket is on. Much better than only on channel 9 in much worse SD...

I must say though I will miss Ritchie Benaud's calming tone during this Ashes. :(

Just because it's on GEM doesn't necessarily mean that it's HD.

"The preference for GEM over Nine's main channel is likely to be welcomed by cricket fans given it will be shown in high-definition..."
