Hi all, looking to get into the world of projectors. Would like a w1070 but open to anything in the <$700 range at this stage. Let me know what you have!

W1070

Do it

Hurry up so you can watch the cricket (on foxtel hoping you have it)

A 50" TV feels like a postage stamp after viewing on a pj

I have an old Sony VPL-W400QJ projector that has been sitting in its box here for years. It has a brand new lamp worth $450. You can have the lot for $150 + shipping.

Yep, have foxtel hd. On a 50 inch tv at the moment, can't wait for the big screen

Hey mate, thanks for the offer but I'm looking at something full hd, or at least 720p. Cheers

To ensure you get the right projector for your room, could you supply us with a few dimensions? Such as the screen size your hoping to display, and the min and maximum distances that the projector can be placed?

Also if the projector needs to be placed off centre (as some projectors have lens shift which allows you to position the projector off centre and with this adjustment you can then horizontally/vertically shift the image back into the centre of the screen)

Hey sorry for that,

room is 3.7m wide and 4.41m long - 2.4m ceilings

As the room is about to be renovated (completely empty at this stage) the projector can be mounted anywhere.

Probably placed center for now, incase the projector is upgraded later on the same mounting brackets can be used.

The 1070 or Epson tw5200 would be within your budget and room size (depending on how big a screen you want)

Have a lookout for the TW3200 or 3600. Recently change my 5200 to it and it's much better in contrast and quieter. Mine cost 300 plus new bulb. (No 3D though)

Or check benq or Epson online shop for refurb ones...

No worries thats perfect. You'll definitely get some great suggestions from that. I've bought a projector before that didn't suit the room very well.

i've had great success with EHTW-3000, any of the TW range are very good value for money. The 1070 is very good for higher lit areas.

What sort of screen size did you have in mind so far? No doubt it would be dictated by your room dimensions but 3.7m wide is quite big.

Geez, that seems a bit steep considering you can get a W1070 brand new for just over $900...  Not sure where the other PJs were located, but I'd be wanting a demo at least before dropping best part of $700 on something so fragile.

Can anybody confirm if the warranty is transferable - ie, does it just go off the date of the receipt (Yeah, I'd be wanting that too).

Sorry, I know Blueman123 is looking for something around the $700 mark and everybody has a line somewhere, but or $200 more, you've got peace of mind that nothing has been neglected and a full warranty.  Just my 2 cents ;)

Without distracting too much from the original topic... If you had to, would you prefer to buy second hand from a stranger on Gumtree, or a refurb from BenQ? (I think the warranty varies on the refurbs).

Epson also have their clearance centre, but all items only have 6 month warranty.

Fingers crossed for Blueman123 :)

Thanks for all the help guys -

How is the Acer H5360 on the classifieds rate as a projector? I know its 720p, but I can grab that and use until towards the end of year and upgrade to a w1070.

Most of my money is currently tied up with the renovations, but I'll see if the Minister for War and Finance will approve ~$900 for the w1070 at Officeworks.

I have an epson 5200 sitting in a box since i got my JVC-X500. has i think about 2500 hours on it but all at economy mode so it should have another 1500 hours on it still.  Globes are cheap and about $100 genuine.

I would be willing to let it go for $650 plus post if your keen.  It is white btw and never skipped a beat.

good price for a new one with the 2 year "in house pickup" warranty. but please remember to keep original rpt and box.. coz your warranty is longer than you think. manufacturers warranty is 2nd to the australian consumer garranty laws.. anyway good viewing.

oh just a opinion and NO malice to anyone intended.. since when did a pj become "delicate, fragile or a complicated piece of electronic" equipement? globe+mother board+lense+fan hardly rocket science. my 20 year old camera is more complicated

lens alignment, colour wheel alignment, panel alignment etc causing convergence which is a biggie on certain models. (on appropriate models of course)
