hi all

I was thinking of purchasing one of the eBay tube phono preamps to upgrade my existing Cambridge audio 540p or just simply buying a tube preamps to use aswell as the 540p I was just wondering if anyone has tried any of them at all. Unfortuantly I cant put any links up as it dosent seem to be working for me but I was looking at the little bear valve stereo phono preamp, little dot mkII preamp and the tube preamp 12ax7 were all what I was considering to buy

thanks jamie

I own the Bravo Ocean that I use with my cheap HD435 Vegas Sennheisers just from the laptop. I did try it as a preamp inline in my HT setup (Arcam FMJ BD300- Bravo- Elektra HD) but the volume was just not enough and the sound to me was way to compressed! I didn't try any other configurations but it does sound good with plenty of oomph via headphones. I did just recently change the standard cheap china made 12AU7 out for a JAN 5814A which gave it great bottom end for the HP's but sounded like the top end was being squashed whereas the standard tube was neutral all the way but I have kept the new tube in anyway...

I see it's an upgrated pre-amplifier, I wonder what that means?
