Well I bought Goodbye Yellow Brick Road BRA from Jb and will report back after comparing it to my SACD of the same.

What I also bought was this:

https://www.jbhifi.c...edition/581981/

And the BD Audio disk is EXCELLENT ... Withought a doubt I have never heard these tracks sound better... They could have been recorded yesterday.

There is not a lot of data on these BR pure audio discs. Typically it takes about 90 minutes to import a BR and 30 minutes to import a DVD in Kaleidescape. The BR pure audio discs only take about 10 minutes.

.

I've just finished back to back 5.1 track comparisons of the SACD 30th Anniversary Disc and the New BD Audio version.

Gear: Oppo 105, Integra 8.3 and Elektra HD

SACD outputting DSD to the Integra
BRA outputting DTSHDMA as that is the only multichannel track on this disc.

Long story short the BRA is the superior version.

The SACD has a much warmer sound with noticeably more bass.

The BRA has much better Mid and Hi end ... Far more detailed and transparent in the clarity of the sound.

Effectively I think the SACD is more "basey" because it is missing much the hi and mid detail due to the lower amount if data.

If you have the SACD it still sounds great, but the BRA is the audio equivalent of the difference between DVD and BD in Picture Quality.

Neither disc is hard to listen to after hearing the other ... Some would probably say they prefer the basier SACD.

Picked up breakfast in America and exile on main street last Saturday.

both included vouchers to access a digital download of the album; currently downloading zip files.

Breakfast in America was good, but not noticeable better than original vinyl.  I did a compare of three tracks (obviously not blind).  Of course the main difficulty is that the new BRPA has been remixed, so it sounds different...and maybe I prefer the original mix - who kn ows.

Exile I've never owned before.  Good album but the audio did not leap out at me as something special.

Here's a new 5.1 album (not 30 years old) on HFPA Blu-ray Audio especially mixed in '3D' surround:

Mando Diao: Aileta

This video talks about the surround mix and the band in general. Not sure if this is being sold in AU, I ordered mine from Amazon UK

This Mando Diao single from their Aelita Pure Audio album sounds just like INXS:

See my pst at #158...using latest version of IE and site won' let me quote for some reason.

Whilst my original comments are true at moderate listening levels...they are not otherwise correct.  Had the house to myself last night and at ear bleedingly loud volumes the vinyl is nowhere near the BD disc in terms of quality.

G'day Blairy

Interestingly last XMAS a couple of us did an exhaustive digital V analogue test with Breakfast in America through some pretty impressive stereo gear.

The BRA was the best digital, but it was bested by the vinyl.

What turntable, phono stage & BR spinner were you using for your comparo?

But the Breakfast in America HFPA BDA is not very dynamic (and is compressed):

I would suggest comparing one of the better BDA releases against vinyl.

Tears for Fears: Songs from the Big Chair is coming in early November on a standalone HFPA Blu-ray Audio with a 5.1 surround mix by Steven Wilson!

No pre-orders up (except a Canadian site that won't do international shipping).

I've just finished back to back 5.1 track comparisons of the SACD 30th Anniversary Disc and the New BD Audio version.

Hi Chops,

the only new remastered audio is the 2 channel section, the 5.1 is from the original 2003 release...I'll be hanging onto my DVD-A version, which I believe is still slightly over cooked but it does sound pretty good.

Regards

No idea ... My comments refer to the SACD v the BRA ... And there is a marked difference.

Are you saying the BRA is the same master as the DVDA?

Yes, that is what I am saying- the 5.1 mix on the BRA is from the original 2003 version, most probably from the DVD-A considering it was LPCM @ 24/96.

Cool ... The reason for my posting was that they are distinct in their differences and yes, the 2003 version, assuming that's what the BRA is, is better than the SACD.

Its a great album on yet another format re-hash, it would have been nice to redo the 5.1 as it may have tempted me

Got my copy yesterday. This is well worth picking up. The surround track is very good.
