I managed to download a digital copy via Ultraviolet a couple of weeks ago using an IP Change app that gave me an Amercian IP address, but I tried the same thing today and it seems the UltraViolet bunch have now worked out how to detect this.

Anyone else found a way to actually get what you paid for when you bought a BD from Amazon US?

I used witopia - a VPN service. I also used my US iTunes ID. It's not hard getting a US itunes ID.

I have a US Itunes account - the problem is the Ultraviolet server keeps picking me up as being in Australia!

Slightly off topic but can you set up US iTunes account without a credit card, like you can in Aust and UK? I tried without success.

Thanks in advance

Yes you can. Just buy any free app and don't specify a payment method - that's how I did it years ago.

Install Hotspot Shield.

No need for U.S iTunes accounts.

Am trying it now, but it doesn't, I visit the Ultraviolet site and I get a popup from Hotspot telling me to reinstall the profile .... I do this and get the same warning/reinstall message ... PLUS it is now not letting me access any web pages on my ipad.

Somehow Ultraviolet is managing to screw with all these programs - yes I am clearing cookies etc. each time.

Just tried it on the PC and Ultraviolet still busted me! Grrr

Just tried unblock and it doesn;t work with ultraviolet either - sneaky gready bastards!

Probably tracing the MAC address of your wireless router.

Modem routers maybe? Using a direct wired connection.

I never had any issues with a VPN - Witopia is the one I use. Haven't tried it recently though.

If you are downloading into iTunes and it's a US code you DO need a US iTunes login and account.

Yes - I have a US Itunes Account etc, and I did successfully download a film a couple of weeks back, but something has changed - the ultravoilet webpage wont let me validate the code, so I don't even get as far as itunes.

Now this doesn't happen with vanilla digital copies, it's only the UltraViolet one that seem to have changed something in the last couple of weeks.

I'm not even sure it;s a MAC address issue as I have also tried via Telstra 3G using a proxy (the one Blade suggested) and it still didn;t work.

... and then these film studios wonder why we turn to "other free sources" to download movies

Seems like a lot of effort for something you've paid for

No, one of the things I tried, from above, was a US dns server, so not that.

OK. I just received my copy of 'The Hunger Games' complete with Ultraviolet digital download.

Loaded Witopia (VPN) set the gateway to Los Angeles and set it to use ipsec. Connected.

Went to thehungergamesmovie.com/redeem, selected iTunes, Logged into itunes US store with my US account, entered code, movie is now downloading. Hmm - I wonder if it's not using ultraviolet because I selected iTunes?

I just followed the other link and it's on an ultraviolet page now prompting me for my code - no problem.

Hmm, Mine is for Battleship:

www.UltraVioletUniversal.com\Battleship

Out of interest give it a try to see if it will let you enter a code?

I don't even get that far.

if it does then perhaps it is picking up the Mac address of my router or pc. (or it could be Sanity reeking revenge on my for not buying one of their Defiled Discs! LOL!)

Agree, never believed they would be able to determine you are in oz if u use US DNS and a US based proxy server.

Perhaps it's being inferred from time zone and/or language settings on your machine. Seem to recall these are disclosed by all browsers.
